Hit the water around 9am. Place was packed lots of kayaks and another canoe. Given the traffic on the water and the wind situation I made my way to the back of the pond to let he wind set me for a drift. I also decide to go in to the box and use similar yet different lures than usual given all the pressure that was on the water. Figured the fish have seen spinnerbaits and senkos all morning.

Well no true pattern mostly caught them while moving anchored did not seem to do much even in prime spots.

I did stumble on to 2 big rocks that I had never seen. Picked up 10in bass on a jig off them.

Well weather moved in quick and man I always bring everything but the sink and today I left things at home, won't do that again as the temp dropped big time the Sun was gonzo and the Fog rolled in. I was COLD IN JUNE as I had on very light clothing.

Ground it out until 1:30 with a final tally of 7 bass (biggest a mid 2) 4 picks.

1 jig Bass 1 spinnerbait Bass 1 buzzbait Bass and the rest on swimbaits.

Had a few blow ups on the frog and missed a beast of a hit 2 feet of the tip of my rod on a buzzbait retrieve that sacred the crap out of me lol.

All and all not bad not great but felt good to get out again after 2 weeks off the water.

Late report got out a week ago Friday to one of my SS haunts. Was due to fish the Saturday but given the wash out the wife was cool enough to juggle some stuff and take on some of my stuff to allow me to get out.

Was only a short short 3 hour window something I usually don't bother with given I was using the canoe but I new it was probably going to be 2 weeks before I could get out again so here we go.

Shallow no motors allowed grass and pads for cover. Even though it was late afternoon still went to the topwater to start. Bam 4.3lbs on a Rage shad. Well that was worth the price of admission lol.

This put me on a pattern cover that was separate from all the rest held fish. No other big girls other than one 2 plus off a point on a spinner bait. Finished with seven bass 2 on the spinner 5 on the rage shad. Also tried the jig frog and popping lure. Top 5 was around 10lbs. Glad I got out hated leaving them biting but such is the life of a Dad.

Fresh Pond
5/5/2012

Well after only visiting this pond 3 times in the last 20 plus years, and at that from shore for a very few minutes, thanks to my buddy it was back to my roots. I learned (Thanks Dad RIP) to freshwater fish here at Fresh Pond Plymouth. Back then they could not pull me away from my spot on the bank with my bobber and worms. Then one day it happened I got a largemouth bass. Soon to follow was learning to fish with lures. Then a bass-aholic. Well did not manage a Rapala j9 bass (my Dad's favorite lure and the one I used the most back then) but my pal had us on bed fish I managed 9 bass 6 were keepers all on a slow dragged lizard and 1 was the every elusive Fresh Pond smallmouth bass caught on a jerkbait.

Took a ride by the old cottage it has transformed into a house now but again many many memories of time well spent. Told my pal while on the water if we see a Schltiz can with a pull tab in this crystal clear water it may be my Uncle Andy's (RIP) lol.

4/27/2012

Well after a tough start I went to my old stomping grounds. Hit the right shore hard with lighter winds allowing for a soft plastic presentation which is usually money if the fish have spawned or are spawning. Well not today lol.

The wind began to pick up a bit and I found myself hung up on a dock or two. I also managed a tree or two lol. This is getting expensive lol.

Got out of the wind and missed my first and only hit of the day here on a Berkley slug.

Tried all my known spawn spots and even off shore but nothing from top to bottom of the water column. Could chart fish but no takers. I saw no beds of any kind either.

The wind was whipping now and I took a wave over the side of the canoe that freaked me out. Got to the fish ladder and still nothing had to be home by 2pm so I made the run in and while it usually takes 10-15 min it took 35min with my 55lbs motor pinned on 5 yikes. I smell burning and the contacts are getting so hot my transom is getting burnt then my hat flies off. I was able to do one productive thing here today and it was retrieving my favorite hat via rod reel and lure .

Off the water by 140pm wind burnt tired and a bit frustrated.

Next time I will pay more attention to the weather and pick bodies of water that have cover from the wind lol.

Cleveland Pond
4/27/2012

Bad day, Got my canoe the night before and had it and the car loaded and ready to go the night before. Mistake one lol. This lead to me sleeping in a bit getting a late jump. Second problem of a problem filled day was having to wheel my rig to the waters edge which in hindsight was not big deal. The big deal was the no motor rule as with the crazy stiff breeze paddling was a chore.

Well shallow pond lots of cover and I bet it is a top water fishing dream when the time is right. Could not get set up at all with the stiff wind so I paddled as far as I could and did 3 drifts missed a top water hit and managed a small bass and dart on a spinner bait.

Found some submerged rock by the damn along the dike. Worked it hard for 30min. With nothing. Being on a time restraint I pulled out and headed to more familiar waters. On water 630am off 930am

Got out to another secret SS hotspot with a buddy. We were on the water at 630am. We noticed the water level appeared to have recently fallen off 2 to 4 inches. With that info we stopped pounding the bank with shallow cranks and jigs and concentrated a few feet off the cover. Well that did not work and after seeing a little baitfish activity off the bank we checked out the flats and breaks. Bingo! These fish are almost ready to do their thing starting water temp 53 when leaving 57 to 59. We found fish on the breaks and some of the bigger fish (female?) cruising the flats. Lures of the day were minus 1, spinnerbait and jerkbait. I was able to manage 10 bass 4 picks before leaving at 130pm. I was rewarded with the 3rd biggest bass of my life 6lbs 9oz caught on a minus 1 on 10lbs sensation.

Ponki
4/6/2012

Well I was able to get out on Ponki Friday 630am to 1pm. I used my canoe wheels to success for the first time. It made the haul in so much easier. The trip out wel,l they worked, but I did have to carry the heavy stuff up ahead of the canoe.

Any way, I was trying out a new jerk-bait and hoping to get some fish on the fball jig. I also was trying out a customized spinner-bait. I put a fluted gold Indiana blade on a small spinner-bait. Worked well as far as casting and vibration. But catching lol only 1. I got 2 pickles on the minus and one was a beast. I nailed giant sunnie on the jerk-bait.

Tried different trailers and sizes but could not get bit on the jig which was a disappointment. Given the time I put in

Well I had no success up tight but found the first break and as usually any rock/grass mix held fish. I loved this jerk-bait even before the big fish as it casts long and has a cool action. Before this RC I had only tossed huskys.

Do need tougher hooks as the big girl bent out some of the trebles she weighed 5lbs 9oz. This is my biggest Ponki bass as well as my biggest jerk-bait bass. Finally tally was 8 bass 7 pickles and sunnie.

Well mark it down 3-24 and finally got on the water for 2012. Met my good friend at the pond and began fishing around 7:30am. We decided to paddle over to an island area and began our fishing. I got bit early on a minus1. The plan was to do a drift with shallow cranks and jerk baits towards the back of the pond. Then concentrating on the bush/brush with jigs and then the area around the feeder creek. Well we picked up a few bass and pickles along the way. When we got to the jig area to my surprise I was getting bit tossing my minus right up on to the cover. Frankly it was out doing the jig. So we stuck with it. The bite died a bit and the jig began to turn on both drag/hopping and swimming it. I tried swimming the jig as it seemed more forgiving in the brush than all those trebles. It may have been confidence or just they liked the true bait fish look of the lure so it was back to the minus for more fish.

All and all another great trip with a good friend on a quiet no motors allowed SS pond. The highlight of the trip was 4.5lbs bass caught on a jig by my pal while he was on speaker phone with friend of his lol. Good times lots of fish with my best being around 3lbs.

Saturday after turkey day I met up at my buddy's place and he took me out to one of his spring/summer AWT ponds. Beautiful day to be on the water low wind balmy (for late November) temps. He had us working jerkbaits off a breakline. We made casts along and up on to the flat. He caught a stocky bass along the break. I hauled water for a long while trying the chatterbait and j9 as well as the jerkbait.

We switched to jigs along a wooded bank. After back to back hangups I got skid-dish/gun shy on the jig and went back to the chatterbait. I had a decent bass come off at the boat on the chatterbait. My buddy landed a nice mid 3lbs off a jig on a brand new lay-down (he said it was probably from that early snow storm).

We worked a flat at the back end of the pond. After finding some still alive pads we got some fish off of them. 2 small bass and 2 darts. The bass came on the j9. My buddy was getting crushed by darts on his jerkbait. We finished up at a small yet long in the water point that had grass on it still. Well it held fish just not to many bass. He pulled 2 on the jerkbait and myself 2 more on a rattletrap. All in all a fun 3.5 hr and big thanks for taking me to a new spot.

Got on the water with my buddy at about 9:30 AM. We noticed the water up a bit but still sadly low. Are they ever going to fix the stupid dike. Any way the plan was jigs jerks cranks and spinners. Buddy gets a bass on the jig pretty early in. The jerbait was tough as the water colum was thick with dying off grass. Well jigs bounced of rocks did the heavy work for the day. I also did get 1 on a small jerkbait and minus1. The chatterbait scored me a slimedart as well. The wind was tough and the water choppy water crashed over both the front and back a couple of times. Off the water at 2pm a little wet and little cold. total count 3 bass 1 pick for me buddy had 2 bass 2 picks.

Got on the water at 11:30am with my daughter looking for panfish. Well no luck on nightcrawlers or bladedancers. I got a pick on a minnow jig I still can't believe I dropped the ball on passing it over to my daughter for her to reel in as it was fighting hard on the ultra light gear.

Well off the ater for lunch and for my daughter to play with her cousin. I was back on the water at 2pm off at 6ish. Total grind scored 1 more pick 2 perch and a small bass all on the husky jerk. Water was between 45 to 48 all day. Tried minus,fb jig,j9 and a little punching as well.

The plan was to head to the Cape to hit the small pond my buddy got his PB (over 8lbs) at last fall. Well we launch early AM and there are two guys already on the water. He thought they were trout guys but to our disappointment they weren't. Well 1 lap around and us only nabbing a small perch the call was a made to select another pond.

Well I had a time window to be home so my buddy decides to head North back over the bridge and sets us up at a small pond that they say has only Smallies and panfish. Well he made the right call after telling me that we would be all in at this point due to the weather coming and my window.

We made the best of it as I got my first smallie on a j11 (trout) followed by another. He grabbbed 1 on a dt10. We reset another drift and I switched toa j9 with an orange belly (actaul color brook trout) and wham a nice smallie and then 1 close to three pounds.

Well total for me was 2 perch 8 smallies. These things fight like tanks and had me calling for the net many times over only to see a 12in fish at the boat lol. it was raw and then real cold as the rain came down.

I look forward to adding this fiesty fish to my routine next year..at least I hope as they say they can be tough when the go deep.

Well tagged up with a friend for what was a full day fishing for him but a half day for me. as I had family commitments. We met up at 6am the plain was big stuff (which I am not a fan of) and top-water. Ok I am in when you mention top-water. Well the early A.M. did not pan out to well and after 2 fish for me one on a buzz-bait the other on a Berkley slug I was on to a 2nd pond by 9:30am.

Pond 2 was closerto home for me and a super secret. I thank my buddy for telling me about it and out of respect to it I won't return without his heads up. It was a punching only deal pretty much. Since I am not usually one for multiple ponds in a day never-mind just being able to do 1 thing all day I tried other things like a swimming jig,spinner-bait and buzz-bait. But the only thing they bit on was punching. Having been well aware of this technique for years but not truly applying/trying it until last year, as I did not have the gear truly needed to do it properly. I felt more comfortable this time around given I had purchased, over the winter, an actual punching rod and switched from steel weights to the tungsten jobs. I fished a 3/4oz weight with a fatty craw, crazy leg chiggercraw and a power hog. Well I caught 8 bass two pickles with the fatty doing the most of the work. I was heading home at 1:45pm.

I did manage to do something funky to my elbow when on my first fish I did not have the rod fully extend (it has a collapsible butt) and it rolled and tweaked my elbow. Well all day doing the pitching thing did not seem to help the pull/tweaking. All in all a good trip and thanks to Evan for taking me out in the A.M. and giving me some great tips on the whole punching deal. Hope my elbow heals up so I a can fish again this year though punching may be out until next season.

After not getting out in 10-days and getting by the 1-yr mark of my Dad's passing I was looking forward to fun camping and fishing with friends and family. Friday I got on the water after loading up the cabin around noon. Weather be damned I came to fish. It was wet and the canoe needed bailing many times. Things started slow but after a tip from buddy saying his girl was getting some bites on a jointed minnow I made the switch from blades and a swim-bait to the j9.

Well Friday finished with 9 bass 8 pics and a sunnie. Most of the damage came on the j9 (used the golden color I like it in the fall) but I did manage my two biggest on a hollow body swim-bait they were 2lbs and 3lbs. This lure was great in cover and had a cool action to it. I was off the water at 6pm.

Saturday no more rain but plenty of wind. On the water at 11ish and all I managed was a pic. My brother managed 3 nice bass though, 2 on blades 1 on a crank-bait. Hit the cabin for lunch and got back at it until dusk. Again buddy had a tip on jerk-baits that was working for he and my brother but I could not get it going. As the win died or lessened is the better word I got 1 on a blade and them 3 nice bass on soft plastics the biggest going 2.5lbs.

All and all another fun trip thanks to my buddy his girl and my Brother for all the laughs, food, fish and friendship

So get back on the water after work and it is calm. So at 5:10pm I am off and after fishing half the cove with a buzzbait I put it down to fish a dock/lily pad area with an ocho. Got a tap but no fish. Swithced to my custom spinnerbait big blade 3/16 oz body. On the 4th cast snap....wtf my rod snapped at the stalk. Bummed and out 80 bucks I move on.

I fished an offshore hump from all sides and depths but no fish. Tried the rise between the main cove and the pond nothing there. Got to the quick dropping slope/grassline and wham!. Got 5lbs pickerel on a crankbait parralel to the line. In the process lost my pliers to the pond and found a crack in the spool of my reel.

Getting dark so I head back to the cove only to have my headlamp come apart. That was it tossed around some lillies with topwater and soft plastic but figured I spent enough for one trip lol. Off the water at 7:30pm. Lures: crankbait both shallow and mid depth, spinnerbait, buzzbait, frog, ocho and small swimbait.

Got out today with my good friend the day before his bday. We hit a good size no motor at all rez on the SS. Thought it would be on with the front heading in but no such luck.

My buddy managed 3 bass all on a dt10 2 off point breaks and one off some deep wood.

I grabbed 1 slimedart on a spinnerbait. And then 3 bass. First one on fball jig off some brush with slopping drop. The second on a spook at the mouth of a cove entrance. The last one on a pure poison off a bush. Only good hit of the day for me was on a frog which was on and off in a breaking lol heartbeat.

Well was back at it again after 5pm today. Wind was tough at the launch but after dorking up some shore fisherman's spot I was off (gave them my humble apology to no avail as they spoke no English).

With the short light window and being solo I made a b-line to my "spot" a subtle point with a 4ft to 10ft drop that has a grassline. As I got near my spot a conversation with a buddy of mine got me thinking of another old spot and with the way the wind was going made a last second decision to hit the old cove.

The cove has a shallow sloping point which I hit but no takers. Worked some old railroad tie walls that are now just heavy brush hanging in the water. Missed a hit on the Berkley slug. Moved down a bit deeper in the cove hit another wall and nabbed a chunky 2lbs bass. Next cast to a floating dock/swimming barge got rat pick. Fished some good looking pads docks and a fallen tree top to bottom nada.

Worked the opposite side of the cove a couple of bats on the Berkley slug but more nada. At the exit of the cove spent some time working a small island with a quick drop and weedline. Hit it from multiple angles no takers.

Trucked on to the back brush laden shore again, a theme here lol, missed a nice whack on my slug. Well after getting all set up on my original spot....nothing not even a tap. I pull anchor and begin a drift and a slime dart nabs my spinnerbait. The drift takes me by a hard bottomed hump but no takers on top or sub surface.

It is dark as I head back into the main cove and with no moon it is harder to see my targets (the lily pads) but on the final cast with my spinnerbait I get a weird feeling hit that turns into a battle. After one of my best all time largemouth battles I net a big girl. She went 20in. but much to my disappointment my scale would not work. I have an extra battery in my bag but was having a hard time getting it out and in to my scale in the dark. Well getting nervous about having her out of the water for to long I gave up and set her free. My best guess a solid 5/heavy 4 but again she did not know it as she fought like mule.

That was it tried some better lit pads in the cove but no more takers. Off the water at 7:40pm.

Lures used a shallow DT,j9,spinnerbait (1 pick 1 bass),buzzbait,mouse,minus1 and Berkley slug (1 pick 1 bass).

On this infamous day let me first say thanks to all the great men and women who help keep us safe each and every day both here and abroad.

Same drill as last Sunday haul the canoe and gear to work. Was on the water by 5:30pm trucked out of the cove popping my frog at choice spots nothing doing. Not as windy as last week but still enough to cause some control problems as I tried to work down the bank. Missed the first hit of the day on a frog as I worked the trolling motor. Tossed a buzzjet and sexy swimmer to no avail out on the breakline. Moved up with the ocho and was getting batted by panfish.

Moved half way between bank and break and tossed the spinnerbait alternating sides nothing. Getting halfway down the shore and after nothing at one of my better spots I cruise across the pond for the opposite bank. Switch over to a j9 and like last week bam a perch then a sunnie. As I came to the point I caught small 12in. bass. Phew that was a relief lol. Worked a break from the point to a small island with nothing. So on to my little honey hole or so I thought. Could not keep the canoe in position with out the anchor and giving it was getting dark decide to abort and head back to the cove. Out comes the buzzbait. I switched back and forth through the pads with the ocho and the buzzbait. Even gave the blades one last shot. That was it all in time, buttoned it up and decided buzzbait (with a ocho back up for missed strikes) or bust.

Ding ding ding the 2 year drought ends on a sweet cast snaked through 3 separate sets of pads the buzzbait gets crushed. Nice fight in the dark and trying to stop the trolling motor. Land her in the net and she was still full of energy and as I tried to lip it she lodges my hook into my thumb. In doing so the bait fell right out of her mouth. A measurement and a quick weight. Then the picture and off she went. 5lbs even on the digital and 20.5in long.

Worked the buzzbait all the way into the ramp with out sniff. Of the water at 8pm. It has been a long wait but it feels good to get the monkey off my back even if took getting a hook in the thumb to do it lol.

Had an early day of work for the Holiday so I hauled the canoe and gear to work with me. Got on the water at 5:15pm off at 8pm.

Brutal wind worked the back section of the pond this time out. Caught a perch on a j9 off the small island break-line. Got to the deep back corner and at the end of a frog cast, and I mean at the end, like no further than the end of my rod. I missed a huge explosion. It scared the crap out of me lol. Thought working the back end with the wind pushing there all day would help. But nothing doing. Had some issues controlling the canoe in the wind.

Hit my money spot but it may have been a little early in the season for it as it only yielded a keeper. Missed a hit off a marked hump. Then much like last trip out here I caught 2 quick little guys as I worked my way back into the cove. I tossed a buzzjet (the one I "caught") j9, ocho, chugbug frog and buzzbait. But in the end all the fish were caught on the spinnerbait. No big ones today had another blast right by the boat just at dark that I couldn't do anything with. All and all getting on the water on Labor Day can't ever be a bad thing.

Got on the water at 6:30 am off at 12pm at a SS mudhole. Dead calm and only took 3 casts to get a nice heavy 2 on the buzzbait. Nabbed a pick on a Berkley slug after that. As I worked my way around an island I had a couple missed hits on the buzzbait. A stretch of hauling water was then met by a 10in and 11in bass all on the buzzbait. Things got very thick so switched to the frog 3 missed hits here all of which the fish just simply missed the lure. No follow up hits. Pulled out from shore and worked an edge and had a nice blow up on a spook but again she totally missed it and would not come back around again. Fished a long stretch of nada then nabbed a 6in bass on a buzzbait. Found some more heavy stuff that only yielded some more missed hits. Came around a big rock and got a nice bass after changing to a bigfoot frog. Missed a few more hits on a grassline. Made a decision to try a new soft plastic lure I bought on Tue. First cast nice 14in fish. Second cast right on the landing the lure gets crushed and after a good battle I netted a 4lb 5oz bass. Back into some heavy stuff and after working a stick up from several angles got a nice 2lb fish on the bigfoot frog. At the launch was trying punching some matts after a tip from a friend no fish but did get faked out with what I thought was a hit for it only to be some ones broken line. Well after pulling in 25ft of line I got a reward...A buzzjet on the other end cleaned it up and it needs new hooks but still a cool score.

Tough day on the water after feeling that the pending front would be a bass fishing blitz. Instead the front skirted us and the fishing was what is called junk fishing. 1 pick on a spinnerbait, 4 bass 1 worm 1 buzzbait 1 frog 1 spinnerbait. Did have the opportunity to make it a great day after a monster blasted my buzzbait for it to only come unbuttoned as it thrashed/jumper (totally on me to as my drag was miss set).

Get out of work at 3:30pm on Thursdays so had a AWT set up for today. Finally no disasters before fishing lol. This is a very shallow and dirty water pond. Navigation was very cautious. Given the water clarity I used a small thumping spinnerbait to start to no avail. Tried a soft plastic jerkbait and again snoot grass and no bites.

Committed to the topwater stuff and after working down one whole bank I hit pay-dirt with the buzzbait. 2 keeper plus bass on back to back casts. Tried the slow stuff after this for a bit but no school bonanza to be found. Found some heavy cover and switched to the frog missed a swipe then a nice blast. Water opened up again back to buzzbait grab another 14in bass.

Worked my way over to the super shallow side of this pond and was rewarded with a heavy 2 on the frog off to the side of the feeder creek. Followed the creek for a bit nada. Back to main pond and managed one more small bass on a frog.

Drilled a rock I never saw on my way in which was a wake up call.

All and all for 3.5hr trip it was fun and did the trick to scratch the itch. Buzzbait bites were slurps all the frog hits were crushed.

Well as goes my season so far another tough outing. Was scheduled to meet my buddy at the Rez in Canotn after work. Well I get out at 5 on Sundays and with the wife and kiddies away fishing was in order. Well it is 5:23 and I am just leaving work (got to love retail). Then I hit stop traffic on 128 needless to say I was late got to put in spot at the pond at about 6.

Water is dirty and very low lots of hazzards to watch for. So dusk had not much doing tried top to bottom with limited success and even when hits came they were sluggish or non committed. Caught a dink on a buzzbait a keeper plus on a slug stickbait off a matted clump. Then got 2 white perch and 1 crappie on the buzzjet jr. Buddy managed a couple of pickles and several missed hits. Water was 85.

Tossed buzzbait, worm, slug, spinnerbait, wakebait, frog and topwater.

Still all and all was good to get out and fish.

Took my canoe and gear to work today. Got on the water about 530pm and actual got fishing at about 6ish. Well tried working the deeper weeds thinking the shore on Sunday would have been pounded to a froth. Tossed a frog over any and all pads I saw. Missed a hit on the frog around a dock. Fishing the deeper weeds proved fruitless tossed a buzzjet a j9 and a berkley slug no takers. Camped out on a point with pads and easy access to deeper water nada. It is now feeling like Bristol motor speadway out there with crazy motor boats. Haul across to the island and fish both points find 1 to extended a lot further than I thought. Scooted over to a under water point I found during low water nada. Work up the shore and final get a little perch on the j9. Fished up to another point as dusk sets in, nothing and again nada off the little island. More crazy boating now trying to keep my nose into the wakes. Find a calmer spot with rocks to keep the boats away. Nada switch to black thumping spinnerbait nab a tiny perch. Call it and start to head in committing to toss the buzzbait the rest of the evening. Finally grab a chuncky bass off the corner of a marked highspot. Fish around some shallow pads tough to work through and no bites. In the cove finally see some fish swirling and jumping. Still nada on top so toss the slug and catch a 10in bass. Next cast to a swirl land a 3lbs 4oz bass. then nothing all the way to the ramp.
