Anderson pond
6/26/2012

Went here on a whim, and it may just be the worst pond i have fished ever. The chart lists the depth as an average of 5 feet, but there was almost zero open water. There was one very small section on the end under the trees where I caught my only quality fish of the day. I will never go here again, which is a shame because the ramp is so nice, and the parking so close. I am curious about the quality of the ramp considering the road leading up to it is dirt. For the time and effort spent billings is right across the street and is a five star location. Dont waste your time with this place.

Dodge pond

I made another return trip to the pond to try and figure it out. The shore being very shallow, the bass must hide somewhere. I found that some decent fish holding on a shelf, before the drop off to 60 feet. I don't have a depth finder, but it looked to be about 6-8 feet. I ended up with 8 with two coming off, one on me and another on a hand-off to my son. I hook them and let him reel in a few just to keep it interesting for him. He gets a big kick out of it.

Well after catching some great bass here i figured it was good for another try. I did not strike paydirt the the first go around, but i did not get sunked either. ended up with 4 bass, large one for the day right at two pounds, one about a pound and a quarter, one three quarters, and a baby about 10 inches or so. The downed trees may look good, but all the fish from both trips came from the pads. Its not as fun with mono, braid cuts them off so nice. The wind picked up bad today for an hour or so, which had me very worried, as i am man power only, and i went with it, while trying to find hids. The best two fish were on a float, and i did not feel the take. I was going faster than i can paddle with the wind, and the largest i was dragging threw the weeds, and amazed that i managed to land it.

This is my first time on the lake in the yak, and its a mess already. The weeds were about 8 inches from the surface in the deepest point. I worked the banks under the trees and some pads and came out with 5 LMB, and one pickeral. I have fished it from shore before, and with all the better water around, i dont think it will be worth a return trip!

TWO HOURS AT HOPEVILLE

hopeville pond
6/18/2012

Threw the nucanoe in the van and me and the boy were off for some fun. Launched about 4pm and started scouting for fish. I spent the first 20 min fishing the out passage without a nibble, paddled to the opposite shore and started working the opposite bank west tward the dam. Things were not going so well, as i went the first hour with not even a nibble. I kept at it, believing the JIG would work its magic, and finally i hooked into a fish. I fought it to the boat, out of the weeds and the hook was not even set past the barb, luck was on my side and the first fish of the day was a 17 incher i never felt take the bait. i kept the pressure on and got it in the boat. Note to self, give it the gusto when hook setting in the weeds. Float down the same weed bed on the point another 10 feet or so and continue to fan cast all the decent looking spots. Tap Tap Tap. Good sign so i give it all i got, and the war begins. This fish is doing what it wants with me and the boat and i am along for the ride. two min in its in open water and heading deep. I pull up to turn the head, and snap, the pole is done. My heart instantly sank. I gave the reel a few turns to see if there was any weight left and it was still on there. I was now battling a fish with 2 feet of pole missing. It was tired or something by that point because it gave me a little more fun but came in the boat just nice...

green falls recreation area
6/17/2012

Went for a small hike around the green falls area. Drug the ole ugly stick with me for a shot or two at some bass. Figured i would leave the nice gear at home due to all the trip hazards and problems with taking the hole family over the mountains and threw the woods. Only hooked one half pounder, but seemed everyone else was getting skunked or trying desperately for some pan-fish. Just not my style.

smith pond

I wanted to stay around the house, and i drive by this pond all the time. It is a real pain to fish due to the shallow depth, and all the growth. It has green slime black slime, and all the worst types of growth. Running anything with an exposed hook is a waste of time because it will be full of garbage on the second crank of the reel. I had taken a break on fishing with worms to learn how to jig fish on the baitcaster, and i am glad i decided to bring them along today. Even a texas riged worm brought a lot of garbage back to the boat, but it also had a fish on the end a lot, so that was just fine with me.

shetucket river
6/15/2012

Worked three locations on the river today, behind the park before spreg, and the small pool on the 97 bridge, and finally the dam. Water flow threw the dam was very slow, with nothing over the spillway, and only a pipe and one gate partialy open. There was so little flow i had a hard time finding current or rifels to locate trout. I did find some good size fish next to the bridge park but no bitters.

I made three stops today, and got a buch of hits from small mouth bass. I also had a fish that i hooked into and never saw but it felt like a two or three pounder that i turned up stream, and then he hung me up and broke off. I may have been able to land it had i had more paitentce or dedicated enough to get totaly wet. I did get some wet but i would have had to go all in and float past where he hung me up and then pull him down stream and i was not that dedicated. I lost three lures today, a new personal worst, but i also had some good fun. I think i spoted a huge striper from the railroad crossing the river, looked at least three feet.

oil mill brook trip

oil mill brook
6/1/2012

Spent about two hours running up this brook. First fish of the day was a 12" brown and the largest i had. The fish were very agressive, like they had never seen a lure before, and that might make sence considering the small size and limited amount of pools. I drug the 1/8 silver cleo spoon again to good effect, and caught 9 in total. The smallest was only 4" or so. I spoted one good fish the hole trip, but i had spooked it before i got a chance to cast at it. There were tons of bugs, and i even thik i got a leach on my foot, which i did not find until i got home. This time of year might be best considering how cold the water was, still very cool. I did not use waders just aqua sox and shorts. I walked up the brook in the water the hole way. There are lots of houses at first, and then it opens up and then your in the middle of the woods. I went under the 395 when the river forked and that ended quickly, in a marsh. I went back under the bridge and continued north. I think i made it about a mile or so, but the water level dropped after the split, and the pools were very small afterward. I enjoyed myself, and it was a good adventure, but i would not do it again.

Figured i would give this brook a go, considering its just a little way down the road. Not great from what i think, but i am into larger rivers that this normaly. Took two trout and saw another. Also baged the bluegill of the day at a waping 4". I doubt there is ever any keepable fish in the section i was in having the 15" min limit.

gardner lake
5/12/2012

Tried to get to the lake at first light, but the sun keeps comming up earlier. I made it by 6:30 ish, and was fishing by 7. Did not manage a waleye, dont know if i ever will, but we had SMB, LMB, pickeral, and one 18" RAINBOW TROUT, in the boat. The first rainbow i have seen come in this year. The morning was very calm but the wind picked up a lot arond 11:30. It also was cold when we first hit the water but was in a T by the time we left. Dont know how much longer this will be a good lake, when all the powerboats and ski's show up, its a real pain.

Took a road trip to check out the rivers and brooks in the area. Most were small but we expected a little better flow due to the large amount of rain over the past few days. We also checked out little river but i only got a 3.5 inch brown fingerling out of that location so i will not even bother talking about that one

LITTLE PICKERAL POND
5/7/2012

Well today was the test trial, and she for sure is not a boat person. I made it 15 min before she started asking what time it was. Boated 2 18" pickeral in 20 or so min and she was done. I put her on shore to smoke, and boated a .5lb bass and it was over. Guess i did not catch them fast enough to keep her entertained, and i thought things were going fast.

Took my dad for a float down the river today, and things were nice. It was overcast but the sun did peak out of the clouds many times during our 6 hours of floating. The current was very low, and the trip to a little longer than expected. The small fish were killing it, as i had something like 25 brem, blue gill and 4-6 inch bass in the boat. The best bite of the day was a 1.5 lb smallmouth that i bounced off the side of the boat and it ended back in the water. Dad got to see the fish, so no loss as all i would have had to do was unhook it and throw it back. Missed a good chance at a picture though.

spaulding pond
5/2/2012

This location is great if you want to fish with little kids. There is tons of shore access, and few bushest to get in the way. I did manages to loose a spinner in a tree, but i was trying everything i could think of to get a bite and still ended up skunked. I will never go back to that location, as the shoreline was all very shallow, like six inches deep for 15 or more feet out. There were some very small stocker rainbows taken while i was there by the bait hangers, but nothing to get excited about. I did hook a broken off line to take my one fish of the day a little 11 inch rainbow, which had somehow swallowed a line and had it running from stem to stern. I cut all the line off and out of the fish and i let it go free again, a depressing sight to say the least. I did my part for conservation for the day.

Long pond
4/21/2012

There were oceans of boats on the little pond today, guess the word got around about the double stocking and the salmon they put in. Almost like bumper boats, with all the craft on the water. I spend a lot of time at that location, and i did not recognize anyone so it most likely was a bunch of out of towners. The people targeting those two species limited out early, i was going for bass and pickeral so i got none. Dont eat fish, so no big deal to me!!!!

There were tons of pickeral to be had as no one else was targeting them, and i had two over two pounds, and many others. I lost the only bass i hooked into, looked to be about a three pounder, saw the take and broke off on the hook set. Was using a tube, t-rigged and i have had a hard time getting good sets and i gave it the gusto. my loss

messerschmidt pond
4/14/2012

We decided to try out the schmidt pond again. It was my first time to the pond, but my regular partner was into a two and a half pound LMB so we figured it may be good for another go. Every thing went well for me, but due to the hazards to navigation, he managed to break his wood motormount on a submerged log. Note that i try to warn everyone when i created the pond as it was not previously listed

Got to glasgo late on friday, after a terrable day at work. The pond was drawn down, i believe in an effort to kill the weeds. I would guess the level was down 5 feet or more and there was a lot of shallows and islands. The lake is not deep to begin with.

A half day trip to the pond, first time in the boat. I would only rate it as a three star location, baised on the size of the fish, and the huge amount of weeds on the north end. The fish were biting well on worms and small jigs.

Half day trip to powers lake, bunch of small fish, pickeral and small half pounder bass. In line spinners, rooster tails were working best for the picks, and a few bass. I was running a small jig for bass, and pulled only three, but have several bites i missed.
