Private Lake CT
5/14/2011 - 5/15/2011

-Saturday May 14th-
So it started out with a trip to my girlfriend's parent's rented house out on a great lake I go to sometimes to fish. I had no clue I was going to have the best fishing I had ever had in any place. Wow is all that I can say. I remember my gf's father would say that there are some strange and rare fish in the place (caught a catfish one day).

So once we got there, I started the first part of the weekend trip with fishing Saturday the 14th from 1:15pm until 4:45pm or something like that. I found a few small islands in this place with water flowing pretty good around them. Fish usually like this stuff. Plus there were rocks and structure all around.

I hit up one island and casted a few times with no avail because of insane winds. So I got myself to a place which would block the wind coming at me and I was able to keep hitting my 5 inch worm near it tons of times. I felt big hits a bunch of times, but I had to keep at it. BOOM. A good hit, and a nice healthy bass around 1.5 pounds nailed it and I landed him. A few more spots were near docks and boats which are plentiful at this place. A few more bass followed. One place was directly next to the "Safety Patrol" for the lake (not a good idea since I didn't have my life jacket in the canoe). Idiot move but it landed me yet another average 1.5 pound bass.

Another spot was near a cove with rocks. I had no clue but this place had smallies. I casted near the shore and I was very surprised to nail a tiger striped smallmouth bass which fought damn good.

The wind kept taking me to an island which looked like it housed a bunch of fish. I decided to cast about 5-10 feet away from the island near it and SMASH, I got a 1.5 pound small mouth bass (never ever felt a fight like this from a bass). It was BEAUTIFUL and it was my personal best smallie ever...

After this was a few more largies (good 1.5 pound size at least which is an awesome average weight)

-Sunday May 15th-
This trip was the best in terms of numbers. I got up (somehow) at 5:30am and wanted to do some morning bass huntin! I got to that awesome island spot again immediately. Took a lot of muscle since it was at the exact opposite end of the lake which figures. It was 5:50am and the water was damn warm for a foggy rainy day. I got my first bass at 5:53am which didn't take long at all. A bunch of largies were in the same area (no smallies that day) and they hit hard all day. Most were caught after a downpour (which I was in) and after that. Got 8 bass total for this day and loved every second. A notable fish was caught which was a fat stomached 2.22 pound largie.

Loved this trip!

Blizzy Pond RI

Love this place! In southern RI.

First off we woke up at 3:30am and got to the spot around 4:30am. Its a long drive from like the middle of RI to Southern RI (just before CT line). I was in zombie mode while I walked with Carl out into the woods like 1.5 miles with all our gear. I had a feeling it was going to be a good day of fishing for some reason. We finally get to the spot (middle of nowhere) and Carl grabs his first bass of 2011. Shortly after I get a bass and a decent perch that fought pretty good. After some more perch and couple 1lb bass from the both of us, I think I met up with an old friend. The first time I got him on a red/white spoon. This time I got him on a 1/4 ounce RAT L TRAP lure. It was in fact "Nick the Pick." He is a 5 to 6lb pickerel which fought insanely while ripping my drag out for a few minutes as Carl and I geeked out at the size of its head.

Carl got a few more bass then it became breakfast time. A hungry man breakfast followed. Good day of fishing and ended the day off with the "Anti-Social Network Comedy Tour" with Bill Burr, Dave Attell, Jim Breuer and Jim Norton...

Good day both of fishing and laughs. I needed that after the winter.

The Spot, RI
4/9/2011

So I rushed like a psycho to get my RI license before Benny's closed Friday night. There were 3 people in line!

We started out on the water at 4:30am with a buddy of mine in his canoe (Dan) and my other friend (Carl) with his Jon Boat. I was in the Jon Boat and we were just so souped to be fishing again. It was about 39 degrees. They usually stock pretty decent sized rainbows (always rainbows for some reason). We didn't they were going to bite very well because around 5:30am there were very few jumps and fish going to the top of the water. BOY , we were WRONG. Immediately, Carl who was in the boat with me caught the first one exactly when fishing started at 6am. It brought a good amount of attention to us from boats and shoreline anglers. I was hoping I would get one soon too. Dan started killing it with the Fly Rod (wish I had one) Like 10 minutes later I landed the largest of the 8 trout I caught which looked about 1.5 pounds. The other seven were about 1 pounds each. Carl however got 21 (TWENTY ONE) trout in the 2 and a half hours in which we fished. People actually got pissed at us and we heard comments like "Just go home!", "Are you kidding me" and "Another one" because of Carl catching so many. We had a good time and I was glad the winter was over because I am a fair weather fisherman. Hope you enjoyed the trip!

Cold day and windy. Only one other boat in the water. Shot over to Maspy at around 5:30pm. Casted out a bunch of times. Got a pickerel (small size for Maspy), 2 bass and 1 large crappie. Tied with my all time best for crappie (14oz). Only because of this notable fish will I plot this trip. Thanks for looking...

I want to explain the name of the trip. I refuse to think that summer bass fishing is over. Hopefully the bass think the same. I recently watched Michael Jackson "This is it" movie. I created a twist saying that this is "not" the end of the bass season. So I started out going to work and immediately after that I got out into the water at around 5:15pm. Kinda windy, but not crazy windy. I have been going fishing but not really catching anything on my frog bait. I tried 5 inch worms. Things changed. Caught 3 good bass and a large pickerel. Good day, no gigantic boats going 40 thousand miles an hour on the lake. Water warmed up around 7pm with late bites as two of my bass pics are dark in the background.

After about 3 straight days of not catching a DAMN thing at Maspy. I just knew when I saw tons of jumps to the surface they were hitting again. My first bass was at the right of some lily-pads. Pretty nice bass, kept on trying to get back into the weeds. The trip started out with a Russian dude talking on his cell about something to someone at the boat dock. He had a fly rod and I was like "man its kinda early in the day for fly rods" . Boy I was freaking wrong. That guy must have gotten so many fish as there were fish after fish going to and from the surface when I was out on the water. It looks like small flies were just sitting ducks for these fish and they were getting murdered! I, however, wanted to just rock 5 inch worms instead of top water. It turned out to be a good day as I hit structures and drop offs of deeper water and got 6 more bass. I felt I was OWED these bass from Maspy as I was doing terrible for days! lol Enjoy the pics...

Good day. Set out around 5:20pm. Slow day at the start but then bass started hitting around 6pm. At around 7pm, Angler21 and I set out on his canoe instead of using my kayak for a while. He got a smallie and 2 largemouth bass. I got 4 largemouth bass. Nothing big, but we were planning on it. Fished until 11pm, I never do that ever, but I said "What the hell". After a good trip, I told Jeff thanks and left.

Don't remember, but it had to have been windy. Plus tons of boats were in the water. Caught a good amount of bass though including a small smallie. Makes it worth being a trip.

Started the day by immediately rushing home to grab my kayak because the day got better than rainy. This made me pretty happy and it did not seem very windy. When I got there it was kind of windy, but its Maspy so I love it. I ended a nice argument with my wonderful girlfriend of about 2 years now on the celly and set off! I just wanted to get a worm in the lake as soon as humanly possible. The night before I had fixed my Quantum pole because it was reeling in crappy. I had oiled it and greased it up so it was much better and I attached a top water lure on for later on at night. Caught 7 bass not including a smallie that got off at the side of the kayak. I thought it was a small largie so I let it chill out next to the kayak (bad move). The smallie wigged out and got itself off the hook. (I need a net)

Windy day. A weird one though. I started off having no luck from the boat ramp to the back left side of Maspy. Then around some large rocks along the shore, I decided that would be an excellent area for bass to hang out. Casted there and my line just starts darting to the left. "Damn, a pickerel I think" I said. But no, it felt like heavy weight in that sort of way a bass does when they inhale your bait. It surfaced and it was a decent smallie! Due to the fact I am obsessed with smallmouth bass, my heart started beating fast until I landed it in the kayak. Looked to be over a pound and developing the "tiger like" strips on its side (never caught one as large as this to see the strips). After that, I got only a wicked small largemouth bass and an OK one.

Started out at like 5pm and it said it wasn't supposed to be too windy on weather.com. It was pretty windy. I swore to myself for about 2 hours or so before I got any action besides weeds stuck to my hook and worm. I went up the entire right side of the lake and I didn't have great luck until later in the night. My smallest was about a pound and biggest 2lbs. Kinda had fun, but I rather been at the great Masp.

Insanely windy. Masp is totally worth all of the pain. Actually caught a bunch of bass. Fought one that was definitely from 2.5lbs to 3lbs for 10 minutes before I got him in the kayak. Other than that, a couple 1lb to 2lb nothing crazy. Good time though...

"Who else but W.B. Maspy"
7/22/2010

Went to get my "swole on" before I went fishing. Proceeded to do about 8 different excercises (4 sets of each) and be wicked tired afterward. After this, I set out on the yaka-shmaka at around 7:25pm. Couldn't even paddle well because I was so beat. Decided to hit up the Island with the rocks. First cast I landed my first smallie of '10. Second ever. He was only a pound but fought hard. Later on in the night got a few more bass but only largies. Got a 2lber. Thats about it. Fun night....

Lost a crazy bass yesterday, had to be like 3lbs. Never got him because he thought it was more important to back-flip over my paddle in such a way where I would lose him off the hook immediately. Damn thing, but pretty funny. Next time: I'll move the paddle out of the way... Anyways, I got about 5 other bass from 1lbs to 1.5lbs. Still fun...still fishing...
