Here's a long story with a quick ending. We went to the place in Southern Rhode Island that is usually a 3 quarter mile walk into the woods. We googled the location and found that there were 3 more roads we could take that would take us to the pond.

First road we took:
Some dude parked a huge tractor in the middle of the road (that we could have drove down the entire way till we hit the pond). It was probably someones property. I don't blame them, the place is the best ever for fishing. We drove this way and will never go again.

Second road:
Looked like a scene from Deliverance. There were weird looking people sitting around porches smoking pipes and some crazy looking hick kids driving ATV's around in the road past us going 90mph. Also a dog decided to follow us like 200 feet while we went down this bumpy rocking crappy road. Ended up being more private property and the road became "some dude's driveway". We drove this way and will never go again.

Third Road:
The 3rd road was one that lake management would take to tend to the DAM there. However, it led to the dried up
side of the pond in which we still had to walk .25 miles to the water still.

Fourth Road
The longest road but the correct one and we will always take it.

When we finally got to the pond we had an awesome day and we felt less bad about all the failures before hand.

A 3 plus pounder for my buddy Carl and a 4 pound 9 ouncer for me.

Thanks for reading

So on 7/17 and 7/18 I had great luck again at my "now" favorite small pond. I am thinking about going there again because this honey hole is so awesome.

On 7/17 I got a 3 pound 6 ounce nice one

On 7/18 I got a 4 pound 6 ounce beast which made the rod bend into the water 1/4th of the rods length. That was a solid fight since I got it about 15 feet away from me around some lily pads (they make me nervous here since lots of bass get away from these here). I feel something hit the lure like an 18 wheeler from hell and the fight begins. She at first jumps out a couple of feet (in the sort of way fat bellied bass try to "elegantly" get away from the hook). At this point I tell myself "Don't lose this one" its a nice one. It could be the 5 I missed two days previously. After bending my pole violently and wrapping itself into pads, I lipped her and took a video, 2 pics (while keeping her submerged in water when I didn't need to) and safely placed her back into the water to be caught another day. Damn it was hot and my heart was pounding.

7/16/2013

I started this day off at 4:30am getting up from my place in Attleboro and heading to "The Beave" in Franklin for some fishing. As I got there I was expecting that I would only get "at most" a 2.5 pounder or such (thats what I usually get at this place). Not THIS morning. I paddled around and got into 11 bass. 3 pounds 3 ounces at biggest bass, 3 pounds was the second best. The others were 2 and less. Fun as hell anyways. I will be back here as I have learned from a guy at my gym who grew up here that there are in face certified 8 pound bass that have been caught in the ice (not sure in summer water) over the years. I would have a heart attack. Was a great day.

The the afternoon I went to a smaller pond in Central Mass and boy was I happy at what I got. This place at most I think is about 20 acres. Again, I usually get smaller 2 pound bass here. Again, NOT today. 4 pounds 4 ounces for the biggest bass in the afternoon.

Wow, you don't really know a pond until you fished it INCH by INCH. Found a little spot around some pads that all the huge bass sit around.

My blood is boiling, its an August 12th night and all I can think of is fishing in my favorite spot. No-one goes here due to the fact its a half a mile walk into the woods and a quarter mile to get to the water from the end of the woods. My friend and I couldn't wait to get to the spot but we knew we would need to walk the entire way in the dark to be able to start to fish around 6:20am.

We left my friends house at around 4am to get there around 5am. We both carried each others kayaks into the spot and immediately started fishing and was crazy excited.

My buddy got the first bass, a bass that weighed in at 4 pounds 1 ounce. Damnit, I thought, he got the lunker of the trip and I probably won't get anything good. Holy crap was I wrong. I got a bunch of decent bass up to 2 pounds but a few casts later I got a 4.0 pounder even. Nice damn bass I thought! Heavy for its size with a nice stomach. The next bass will blow away my personal best of 5 pounds 9 ounces. She was 6 pounds 2 ounces! The fight was crazy but I almost barfed when I saw that "she wasn't even hooked in the lip!" She only held the wacky worm in her mouth for the entire fight and DID NOT WANT TO LET GO! After almost passing out to scramble to get her out of the water I got a few pics (courtesy my friend) and let her go quickly knowing this was one of the biggest basses of this small pond and want her to get insanely huge (hopefully 7 and 8 pounds one day).

So I set off at one of my favorite spots early in the morning from like 6am till 9:15am before work. The day began pretty slow with some 1.5 to 2 pounders. I then worked the back of the place with a bunch of Lilly pads and what not.

I decided I was leaving soon when I casted about 20 to 30 feet away from shore and about 5-8 feet from the pads that were pretty far from the shore (but still good structure for the bass). My wacky worm 5 inch got slammed and its always when you don't expect to get anything (since its pretty late now in the trip). She took me for a ride for a few minutes and I finally got her out of the water and a few pics and a movie that I will put on later on.

Good day for a good bass. Was pretty happy even though I had to work after.

RI Perfect Kayak Spot

So I always go to this place, usually with my buddies Carl and Joe. We love this place, its windy (but where isn't windy?). Its not that deep, but it has some nice drop offs and shallows where bass spawn. I used to think there weren't too many lunkers until I just found this one and my buddy Carl just got a 5 pound 6 ouncer (not shown in this trip).

The trip started shortly after I seen about 6 teens get out of the pond after swimming and being loud (like we all were). I was like damn, that probobly scared the crap out of the fish. Wow was I wrong. They left, but then I see 2 kayaker fisherman out there looking like a MIRROR image of my friends and I trying to find some nice ones. I start off by sweating my butt off in my kayak and getting insanely angry about the small bass i'm bringing in next to these guys (while they are "claiming" they are getting good ones and bragging all loud and stuff). Didn't look like they were weighing the fish, but saying stuff was 3 pounds and 4 and 5 and such. Like most people say "The human eye adds 1 pound to a fish." So I wasn't hating on these guys though, I was glad they were having fun, but I was just having a rough bite!

I was getting so mad about being 1.) Wicked hot and 2.) Getting crappy bass, I was about to call it quits, but hit up some spots I never do.

I casted to the end of some lily pads, literally saying to myself "Why am I even attempting to catch anything else since its like 8pm now" SMASH! She grabbed into my worm and jumped completely out into the air. Ive never seen such stuff in my life. Fighting insanely and pulling drag like a race car, I finally get her in my hands for a pic 2 short movies and release (not really a release since she wiggled out of my hand when I wanted her to go back anyways).

Awesome time, but felt guilty about kinda being a poor sport towards the beginning in my own mind.

Secret Spot
6/25/2012

Ok so the day started off with my boss (from work) leaving that day. He retired. Here is when a "new boss" took his place. I fished after getting home from Boston,MA for work (they made me go there to help with work and the drive was insane, I drove through boston from South to North).

I ended up going to a spot I usually did, but not too many huge bass. I was pleasantly surprised to not only get a huge fat belly Hog largemouth, but it was on a lure that I never ever use. It was a huge around 7 inch wiggly tail worm that starts off fat (where the hook gets placed) and skinny towards the bottom.

This fish absolutely inhaled the goddamn worm (brown with black flakes throughout) and took me for a ride. She bent the EWG hook and made it a "messed up hook" Gamagatsu 4/0 EWG. I may also post the hook pics too where the hook is supposed to be flush with the worm and its totally NOT.

She weighed in at EXACTLY 4.000000 pounds on my digi scale. What a nice day!

Went out with a buddy from work that I knew only because we both like fishing and with a 35 thousand dollar Nitro boat that's also a plus I would say! Good guy, never hung out with him out of work until the day we went out on this trip. I left my place in Attleboro at like 4am (insanely tired) and went immediately to Dunkin Doughnuts for a coffee and two donuts (real healthy I know).

I got to the ramp at 4:50am and he was already there and took a few casts already. Oh my god, this guy is insane about fishing like me, so no waiting on launching and what not. We started off casting near some spots towards the back of the lake a bunch of times right at sunrise and this is where we got the most fish and bites. We got 8 in total but I got the lunker of the day. Looks to be over 4 pounds, but in all the excitement and having to take it out of the livewell, I didn't weight her, lol.
The catch: I had a craw softbait on a 4/0 hook exposed and threw near a bunch of lily pads but casted farther towards deeper waters and dragged it in with its plastic arms flailing and apparently pissing bass off. BAM, she nails it and pulled a hell of amount of drag in the time I took to reel her in.

And I always weigh 2.5 pounders (go figure)...here are a few pics. Nice healthy bass love to feast on craws here apparently as we took a small bass out with a craw claw sticking out of the fishes throat. We fished from 5am to 8:30am, and I had the time of my life fishing from a real bass boat...damn you pros!

He was pretty pissed though I got the biggest of the day, but hey, you never know what your going to catch.

Hope you guys like the fish pics and write up, I also got a video, I will try to find it and post it with this trip.

All I have to say is WOW. Don't ever underestimate the size of a lake or pond. There are usually going to be bass of good size in places where people don't fish a lot or don't think it is a place worthy of putting in a kayak, jon or canoe into.

It all started off leaving my girlfriends house and I already had my kayak on my car. It was around 5:10pm and I always wanted to try a small place near her house that looked pretty good. I got out around 5:25pm and it was windy as hell. I was wondering what the hell I was going to catch since I've seen pretty sizable jumps from fish sometimes as I am driving by and sometimes from shore here, but never in the kayak.

Suddenly, I heard a ridiculous splash and heard a bird flip out in fear as a huge fish jumped at it to swallow it. I was like "Oh my god dude, that must have been a good fish or someone casting their large swim bait or lure out. Turned out it was a fish alright. A few moments later I paddled to the spot and casted out into the general area. I was pleasantly surprised with feeling drag being immediately pulled out and a huge bass trying to shake the hook loose.

Bunch of March to April Trips

CT and RI
A good 15 bass to start the year!

The first 5 bass were in my kayak at a central RI place. Took a day off from work to grab these guys. 11am to 4pm was long enough for me that day in the wind, but it was nice that day (March 21st)

The next ones were all caught in a canoe two weekends apart in CT.

The first weekend was a surprise b day party for my girlfriends father and I got out from like 3pm to 5pm (really windy March 24th) The nicest one in that trip was 2.25 pounds and a great fight between the wind, current and fish (even pulled drag a bunch of times)

The two other random bass were at the place in RI on a Sunday (the ones with me with a red sweatshirt on) They were kind of small bass but I'm happy to catch them.

The next CT weekend was nice. I got out of work in Westborough, MA and drove the 2 hours to CT, and immediately got out of my car and casted a few times off her parents boat dock. After a few casts with nothing (not a very deep part of lake) I was getting discouraged and I wanted to cast one more time... BAM! Nailed around a 2.5 pounder (didn't weigh but fat and long) and took a pic onshore and got back into water safe. It was around 7:15pm just before the sun went down.

The next few bass were ones I had caught while wearing a face mask (to protect from the sun and wind because it was damn cold). I looked like some kind of "bass robber" on her lake and contemplated not wearing such s*** because it looked insane. Anyhow, I got two 1.5 pounders and it was well worth the cold.

In conclusion: these aren't monster bass but they are bass and I am happy I got so many before May. I can't wait until the warmer months!

Secret RI Spot #1
12/5/2011

Its been a while since I wrote a goddamn good fishing tale:
So it all starts out in Southern RI and I love this spot and always have. I don't usually go alone but I was thinking it would be a crazy idea but a pretty good one to go solo. It is a 30 min. hike into the damp December 5th woods. With a 45lb kayak (all included items within it) makes it damn fun and a LOT of exercise.
Very bad start because I had tried to clear a small waterfall with my kayak (it was either that or walk over wet rocks with the kayak), yeah right! Thought it was a few inches of water and it turned out to be about 2 feet of mud and water and junk. Awesome, I said and swore a few times. Now that up to my knees was a ton of water and my shoes were filled with water and mud I decided to enter the water and put the past beginning of the trip behind me. I was really tired from carrying the kayak but proved to be good in the middle of the trip.
So I get out on the water and immediately saw that most of the pond was only about 2 or 3 feet at most, so I headed for the deepest (might be 15 deepest if your lucky). Thats obviously where the monsters would be I betcha. Boy was I right. Bullies they were.
The first bait I tried was a smaller brown jig with a 3 inch green grub trailer. I don't think bass here bite these as a bass was just staring at the thing like "WTF is that?!!", saw me and jetted off in nanoseconds.
My first bite was on a wacky worm 5 inch. BOOM! What the hell, I think I'm caught on a log here. (Which this place does not have many). NOT! It was a nice largemouth that the length was 20 inches and a fatty that was 4 pounds and 2 ounces big. Maybe not huge to you guys, but huge for me.... YES! I said. The fight wasn't much but it managed to pull some drag. Loved it. Got vid and couple pics.
Next was a 3 pound 11 ounce pickerel. OMG! The drag being pulled was SURELY going to snap my line. It was absolutely like having a trolling motor in back of me pulling me around crazy.
Awesome time! Sore though...

Ok the first two bass were caught on a 4 inch swimbait that I purchased from Spro lures. It is slow sinking and it was a blast to use as it is pretty heavy. They make a floating version which I really want for topwater strikes. Both bass caught with it are at least 1.5 pounds.

The next pic after this is of a 3 pound largemouth I call "On Call". She was caught while I got out of work at 5pm but had to be back at 7pm. In one hour I was able to land this one and another 1.5 pounder.

Maspy and Crazy Spot RI
The next pictures are pretty important to me. I had some notable catches and would like to show you guys these fish. There were two lunkers (to me since I don't ever catch anything over 3lbs)

One of these beasts were caught in some shady spot in RI (but you are able to fish there, just noone goes) and of course Maspy. These guys were twins but from like 1 hour away from each other. Both of these guys were 3.5 pound largies and loved catching both.

The first was in some crazy spot where noone fishes and I got a decent largie and then one 3.5 pound (biggest in like 2 years for me). My buddy was pretty pissed off I caught it so he didn't want to even take a pic of me holding it! But she was taken in the middle of the reservoir and shot down (luckily she couldn't jump) and got weeds on her. I thought it was a pike at first (because there are some over 5lb pike there that like to take lures). But I was happy as hell as it was taken almost at sun down.

The second 3.5 pounder was caught at Maspy. This was my favorite because its my biggest at this location (ever).
She jumped out of the water

Maspy
7/29/2011 - 8/2/2011

Lots of good bass in these trips. Most of the trips are Maspy but one is to Norton Res. Loved that place as for my first fish there I got a 2lbs 4oz largie immediately at like 5:30am and shortly after a 2lbs 7oz largie. Loved these 2 fish as they fought hard for their size.

One of the pics sadly is of around a 7lb bass that people fishing offshore killed and filleted (although I didn't see this) and left to rot (sad stuff). I am out here busting my butt to catch these beasts and they are killing them to eat them! It is extremely large and is thought to be possibly one of the fish Jeff may have caught last year! It was 3 times my foot (9 inches) which is 27 inches! You can see the huge spine and huge head and gills in the shot with my foot also.

The middle pictures (with a Bo-sox hat on) is of me when I went out with my sister and her family to Maspy on a paddle boat at a friends home they know. I got a 2lber that day and the kids had a blast seeing it and keeping it for like 3 minutes in a big pail that they had until it was safely released back. I handled it as I didn't trust the kids with it and may drop it. Also, I went back out and got a 2lb 7oz at Maspy that same day (pictured)

The end pic is of Carl with a 2lber he caught at JTR on the MA and RI border. This place sucks now and it was the spot where I caught my only 5lber ever.

In these pics, I have a couple of smallies (wicked fun to catch) and a bunch of decent 1.5 to 2lb largemouth from Maspy.

About the smallies: these things are insane in Maspy. I don't know about anywhere else, but smallies from Maspy jump at most 3 feet out of the water when caught. They are only around a pound but fight like 2lb largemouth darting to the bottom and then going up top to try to spit the hook (which a lot of smallies have been doing to me lately on an octopus hook!)

All of these other guys were caught either in the middle or near structure and were a fun time!

Here are the first 20 bass of 7/15/11 to 7/29/11. There are lots of decent ones and some good ones. Only one bass of this set was 2lbs or over. Don't worry, plenty 2lbs and over to come! I have been doing well with numbers and the first day of this set is a rain day (which have been some of the best fishing for me).

It seems like every other day now, there is a tornado or hurricane warning which I should follow, but it ends up being a good day out on the yak.

6/29/2011 - 7/15/2011

These are more of all my catches between 6/29/11 to 7/15/11.

To give details: I have been having good luck on Maspy these weeks, I never go on the weekend (with the gf), but I know that a kayak fishermans worst nightmares are wind and speed boats (lol).

All of the bass caught on this trip were decent fish, but I would like to talk about the two days that stood out.

One of the days I had caught a smallmouth on a jitterbug, wow, what a fight! He was over a pound and nailed my topwater like a champ! I was jittering over some famous rocks (at the great Maspy) and didn't think of doing so much until I got the strike. He dipped wicked low and came out of the water a good 5 times (which pissed me off because I lose a good amount of smallies that way on octopus hooks. I landed him and he is pictured in these pics.
Another day I got "Hellmouth". She was a big gut female that was in only like 2 feet of water next to someones bass boat. She weighed in at 2.33 pounds (which is good for me lately) and she is also pictured in these pics. She is called Hellmouth due to the fact it was a hell of a time trying to land her because she kept spinning around someones dock and fighting to dip into tons of weeds.

Anyways, I liked this trip and I'm glad I put details in this trip and didn't leave it boring.
