Comment: I fish from shore mostly and don't get to hit deep water often but yeah you are right they tend not to be very effective in deep water.

Comment: there are several deep water places i go where you won't catch much throwing senkos. they have a time and place but there are certain situations where you're better off throwing something else.

Comment: senkos are very good at JP where they suspend a lot in that clear water.

Comment: Wow. So it's just not me. All my go to lures that always grab fish are being ignored. The bass just jump around in JP pond at night taunting me but not biting no matter what I do or how hard I try. I went through almost the whole box trying every lure in every possible presentation one night. Only seem to want to bite at my live night crawlers. I might have to invest in some senkos.

Comment: I use Senkos less these days than I have in the past, but they are a good last minute "Go to" bait from time to time when all else isn't working or the bite is real slow. 4 " with a 2/0 or 3/0 circle type hook is what I use.

Comment: Been killing it with senkos this year! Read all the rave reviews about them on maff and decided to give them a shot about a month and a half ago and they produce more quality fish than anything I have in my tackle box (not that I have everything under the sun in there anyway.) The last few times out, watermelon with black flake has been my go-to.

Comment: Same here with the Senko's. Been fishing them texas rigged deep around whatever cover/structure exists.

I agree it's the slow fall. Especially when the sun is directly overhead. You can keep it right where you want it for suspended fish. The last month or so I'm hitting them in about 6-15' of water, keeping it roughly halfway between the bottom and the surface. This presentation seems to work especially well during midday when it's tough to get a bite.
When it gets into evening I break out spinners and topwater baits, and those have been working too.

Comment: yeah hooligan, a senko or other slow falling bait works well when fish suspend so that could be it right there. sits in their strike zone for much longer.

mcdonams, i use a 3/0 EWG hook. i actually mostly use the skip gap version as it supports the plastic and prevents it from tearing as much. 4/0 works too. downsize for 4" worms as it will kill the action.

Comment: I don't use senko's much but I have better luck with 4". none of the 4" wiggles so just get the basspro's. I use a circle hook with the 4's.

Comment: What size hook would you use for a 5 inch Senko? Looks like common recommendation is 3/0 in extra wide gap. Interested to hear opinions here.

Comment: I've been running both setups, at once. If they don't hit the wacky rig, Texas Rigged almost always produces a fish or two for me. I've been fishing mostly deeper water. I've caught a few in shallower water up in tree's and around docks etc, but I've been getting the majority of my fish from deeper water texas rigged set ups. Not just senkos either, all kinds of soft plastics. Creatures, Salamanders, Ribbon Tails etc.

Comment: are you throwing them in more open water? texas rigged at all or just wacky? if you are going texas rigged in open water with some depth, "senko" might make a difference b/c of that distinct wiggle action. if it's wacky rigged, it's less important as long as you get the same sort of action. the fall rate might be what's most important. if you're skipping to over, it doesn't matter if it's a senko, knockoff, or whatever.

Comment: Yea like I said in the description, I've thrown everything from Jigs, to Swimbaits, to Crankbaits, every type of finesse type bait there is. But they've only been slamming the Senkos. Not sure why, must be the crappy weather and temperatures lately.

Comment: Anyone who fishes with me knows that I am a senko junkie. I have actually spent most of this year trying not to use them as much. Have been going to them as a last resort when nothing else seems to be working.

Paul-E worms work just as good and are much less too!

Comment: Green pumpkin is all I use. Just a heads up, Yum dingers are as good and a little less money. Senko's is pretty much all I have used the last two seasons
