I Love Senkos

Spent the past couple of days fishing a few different ponds, using everyone's favorite go-to lure, the Gary Yamatoaster special - a SENKO!.= The skill cap on this lure is insanely high. I was fishing with a red/purple w/purple flake senko texas rigged, as well as a Pumpkin w/green flake too. Now before everyone commends and applauds me for using senkos, I must say; it's the only thing I've been able to get fish with the past couple of days with the weird weather and how weird the Bass have been behaving lately.

  • I fish from shore mostly and don't get to hit deep water often but yeah you are right they tend not to be very effective in deep water.

  • there are several deep water places i go where you won't catch much throwing senkos. they have a time and place but there are certain situations where you're better off throwing something else.

  • Yeah 3/0 hook is what I use. I only use the 5in.Screw the haters just caught my biggest bass of the year off bass pro pumpkin black flake 20in long with a 14in girth guess a little over 5.Been a little slow this yr but killem last yr it was all I used never had to switch always caught fish.

  • Senkos are good EVERYWHERE!

  • senkos are very good at JP where they suspend a lot in that clear water.

  • Wow. So it's just not me. All my go to lures that always grab fish are being ignored. The bass just jump around in JP pond at night taunting me but not biting no matter what I do or how hard I try. I went through almost the whole box trying every lure in every possible presentation one night. Only seem to want to bite at my live night crawlers. I might have to invest in some senkos.

  • I use Senkos less these days than I have in the past, but they are a good last minute "Go to" bait from time to time when all else isn't working or the bite is real slow. 4 " with a 2/0 or 3/0 circle type hook is what I use.

  • Been killing it with senkos this year! Read all the rave reviews about them on maff and decided to give them a shot about a month and a half ago and they produce more quality fish than anything I have in my tackle box (not that I have everything under the sun in there anyway.) The last few times out, watermelon with black flake has been my go-to.

  • Same here with the Senko's. Been fishing them texas rigged deep around whatever cover/structure exists.

I agree it's the slow fall. Especially when the sun is directly overhead. You can keep it right where you want it for suspended fish. The last month or so I'm hitting them in about 6-15' of water, keeping it roughly halfway between the bottom and the surface. This presentation seems to work especially well during midday when it's tough to get a bite.
When it gets into evening I break out spinners and topwater baits, and those have been working too.

  • Did someone say senko?
