For pike I always use a steel leader with has a swivel built in. But for bass I tie direct every time, I also retie often because your can get nicked a you may lose that fish of a life time. Most of the lures I use like plastic worms will cause line twist but if it get bad I change my line or take off any lure you have on it and let the line drag behind the boat and that usually fixes my line. Jigs and crank bait don't twist the line much. You can also put a swivel up the line a couple of feet like a Carolina rig that also works.

The only baits I ues a swivel on are soft jerk baits. Sluggos, Zoom Flukes, etc.

Dan,
I have officially 21 days left to retire. I'm going pike fishing tomorrow before the storm hits on the weekend. Should be good fishing; especially before a strong front. I'll let you know if we do well. Those lures you mentioned previously; I have not useu them for pike. Fat raps 5 to 8 feet & a couple shallow running rapalas 1 to 3 feet. I'm not going to miss this 4:15 AM getting up for work. Getting out at 2:30-PM is great. 4:15 would be fine to get up and go fishing; but WORK thats differnt. Mansfield Hollow off rte 6 about 5 or 6 miles east of Willimantic going towards brooklyn Ct. Depending on the time of day, I may try some dead shiners on bottom and cast a few spinners runslowly. I did catch a real nice pike casting a 4 or 5 inch flatfish.

I would like to invite you to join in the Canoe and kayak bass tournament big fish takes all. $20.00 per person. Rules are simple. You most paddle your boat, No live bait, You most have a digital camera with a view screen. I will supply an official ruler, you will lay fish on ruler take a picture and at weigh in I will compare pictures and prize will be awarded to the longest large or small mouth bass. This will eliminate having to have a live well. I can be contacted at dcoffin@rayginn.com or 860-818-3270 to get a spot. The field will be limited to 20 boats.

Hey man and thanks, glad you enjoyed the videos.

We have 13 episodes out now, most are either posted on MAfishfinder along side the trip descriptions or on our website www.blackstonecarp.com.

As far as bait used check the carp section of either CT, RI or MAfishfinder sites and there should be a post by me on Bait, you can also check the tutorials section of my website.

We usually do not use lures, though they can be caught on the occasional jig they tend to more natural baits or homemade baits.
