Went out to the race early morning for stripers and blues...from 6am -4pm very foggy out with my old friend Butch...tried hitting a couple spots near fisher's island...then hit the thames river..used live eels and 4oz silver jigs...sorry to say No A fish :( another bites the dust
We started ( Everette and I ) our adventure at 5:00am at Ct outfitters to buy some eels and sandworms..started out north on the ct river. Everette a.k.a Carp 13 hits a huge keeper at 15lbs 36+ right off the bat around 6sh..follows up with another keeper at 34+..ok so now pescadero is beginning to think it was not his day...minutes later I hit a nice one but not a keeper...then hour I finally hit the jack pot..with a nice keeper at 34 14+ lbs..now we think..its on baby...and the big storm hits!..we got completely drenched in water..but still hitting them..carp hits another keeper...I pick up a close one..but sent it back, meanwhile...carp hits 2 cats for the day and 3 keepers...and I hit 1..not bad for the first time at a new secret spot... Carp 13 and I had a blast laughing...seeing the sights with a huge eagle's nest..and Big Pigs... Tune in next time for bigger keepers :)
Hi Dan. My name is Phil14 I see that you were fishing at black pond. I would like to ice fish that pond but can,t seemto find a wat to the water. I went down camp rd because the sign said that there wea a boat launch. I could,t even find that . can you help me?
Do to Rainbow draw down, I have to cancel the tournament, The river will be unfishable for the rest of the month. I will try to pick another lake or time, I may wait until next season. Let me know your thoughts.
For pike I always use a steel leader with has a swivel built in. But for bass I tie direct every time, I also retie often because your can get nicked a you may lose that fish of a life time. Most of the lures I use like plastic worms will cause line twist but if it get bad I change my line or take off any lure you have on it and let the line drag behind the boat and that usually fixes my line. Jigs and crank bait don't twist the line much. You can also put a swivel up the line a couple of feet like a Carolina rig that also works.
Dan, I have officially 21 days left to retire. I'm going pike fishing tomorrow before the storm hits on the weekend. Should be good fishing; especially before a strong front. I'll let you know if we do well. Those lures you mentioned previously; I have not useu them for pike. Fat raps 5 to 8 feet & a couple shallow running rapalas 1 to 3 feet. I'm not going to miss this 4:15 AM getting up for work. Getting out at 2:30-PM is great. 4:15 would be fine to get up and go fishing; but WORK thats differnt. Mansfield Hollow off rte 6 about 5 or 6 miles east of Willimantic going towards brooklyn Ct. Depending on the time of day, I may try some dead shiners on bottom and cast a few spinners runslowly. I did catch a real nice pike casting a 4 or 5 inch flatfish. Steve
I would like to invite you to join in the Canoe and kayak bass tournament big fish takes all. $20.00 per person. Rules are simple. You most paddle your boat, No live bait, You most have a digital camera with a view screen. I will supply an official ruler, you will lay fish on ruler take a picture and at weigh in I will compare pictures and prize will be awarded to the longest large or small mouth bass. This will eliminate having to have a live well. I can be contacted at email@example.com or 860-818-3270 to get a spot. The field will be limited to 20 boats.
