Finally a big bass pic#1
Finally a big bass pic#1
Drizzling out, cast the spinner out. Brought it to the surface for about 2 feet, let it dropback down...saw the wake trail the lure. Fish on...battled this thing about 20 feet. Biggest bass for me this year. About 2 pounds

Small Bass
Small Bass
This is one of the first Bass I hit. He also hit the Heddon torpedo. All around it's the most productive bait for bass here. Although I did also get one on a shallow running KVD Crank that was near the surface as well.

Blugills in the shallows
Blugills in the shallows
The far shore in the shallows was boiling with blugills popping the surface for insects that were getting blown-off the overhanging trees - could have left with a basket full if I wanted too...but don't have the patience to fillet 'em. I usually don't target gills - they were targeting me and to my surprise, attacking my popper just as it hit the water (was after bass, not gills).

Mother's Day magic
Mother's Day magic
My wife caught this almost immediately after we settled-in on the far shore of Massesecum...her first fish but I had to pose with it. After that, 1 quick bluegill strike (nice one at that) on a popper then nothing for a long time until we headed to the opposite side of the lake. Nice warm day with a light breeze - surface water temp was 64.

Pic#2 took me a minute to get my hook out, he had a massive mouth and some nice sized teeth, he was wriggling alot while i was holding him, but i was able to get the needle nose pliers and unhook him with no damage. Today was the 1st day in a longtime i was able to see alot of boils and movement when the lure hit the water. Guessing the sunshine helped warm the surface, and got alot of fish up from the deep.

Smallmouth in Stoneham
Smallmouth in Stoneham
Great-fighting June smallmouth from Spot Pond in Stoneham, MA. Wasn't expecting a smallie. Rented a canoe with girlfriend (no personal watercraft on pond), caught on a silver 4" Yamasenko fast twitched on surface near a small island.

The wee hours of the day
The wee hours of the day
Was it the hour of the day (5:30am - Saturday, July 19) or was it just a fluke...5.1 pound large mouth on a surface popper near the lily pads on Massasecum. This will get your heart racing - enough to wake me up! A few bluegills and a few smaller bass to follow - nothing like last weekend. I am beginning to think that a fish like this is definitely going to happen before it even begins to get light out. Perhaps, this will never, ever get duplicated again -- my biggest bass to date.

On the water!
On the water!
I feel like I just got out of prison with a boat of my own lol. I almost bought my first one 6 years back, but with kids, getting a car instead of a truck...

I'll never have to watch stripers break the surface just out of reach again.lol.

I'll see you guys on the water, and if you live anywhere near me, you've got another yak partner.

Coconuts to Junior for all the good advice.

berlin lake sunday morning
berlin lake sunday morning
Threw out a new lure - a Heddon ZARA PUPPY - into the channel and the lure is a surface lure that zig zags a little when you pop the tip of the rod. This huge ripple of water appeared and i watched it get close to the lure and then he made the hook up. Didn't know it was a pikerel on the line, because i didn't know this lake had pikerel in it, but it was a helluva fight. This fish zig zagged, u-turned etc. I finally got him closer to me, pulled him through 10 feet of muck, got him on shore and was shocked that he wasn't a bass! So glad i cut all my treble hooks down to one hook. This thing had some HUGE teeth and he was clamping down onto the hemostats. this thing was fat and heavy about 2 1/2-3 pounds
