after getting skunked at houghtons, I decided to try my other go - to pond for the last hour of light. To my delight the fish were hitting over there. Lost a beast on my first cast, then caught a couple nice ones before it got dark and the skeeters came out. |

Went out to houghton's this morning with my buddy Nick. Fairly productive day: 7 fish in 2 1/2 hours. No lunkers, but some decent sized fish here and there. Most of em were in the 1-1.5 pound range. Caught a fish on my first cast and we had fairly steady action from that point on. Showed my friend how to fish a senko. Once he got the hang of it he was able to land a couple largees. after a while the whining ensued: "I'm hungry" "I'm not catching any fish" "you're not even watching your line" (me) "and you gotta straighten out your bait. It's all messed up. You gotta put some effort in if you wanna catch anything!" After I set him straight he was reeling in his second and largest fish in no time.

good day at houghton's. got in around 3 pm. caught a decent fish by some lily pads. Moved to the next spot and landed a real good one! No scale, but I'd say it was somewhere in the 4 pound range and about 19 inches. caught a couple dinks on the way out to my final spot, then caught another nice fish (1.5 - 2 pounds) at my last spot at around 5:15 p. Not too bad for a little over two hours! |

went out to ponkapoag pond for some afternoon fishing. walked out to the eastern corner of the pond and caught a couple nice larrys on rootbeer senkos by some weed beds. nice pond, definitely some lunkers in there. I'd like to go back there with a boat next time.
then I stopped by nearby houghtons pond and caught three more to end the day. weather was a bit unsettled so the fish were kinda finicky. |

went out to buckmaster pond in westwood for some morning bass fishing. decent pond for shore fishing right now as the water is so low you can walk around most of the pond without much hassle. bit of a slow start until I made my way out a little ways near a set of pads on the northern end of the pond. spotted a nice larry in a shallow cove near an old dock. threw a 5" black w blue flakes GY senko t rigged, let it fall to the bottom, lifted my rod tip and saw my line shoot out. I set the hook and pulled in a good sized largemouth bass. Then I noticed a lot of fish jumping in and around the lilys. water was really shallow so I could see the wakes of the fish really well. spotted a jumper and cast out the senko. started reeling fast until the lure hit the topwater and then ran it over the pads right where he jumped and BAM! hit it on the topwater. caught a couple more in the pads and then decided to change spots. I noticed a narrow peninsula across the pond with steep banks on either side that looked accessible. hit three more bass and one pickerel on my way out there and then three more from that spot. 13 hookups total and 10 fish landed, biggest one was maybe 16"; didnt have a scale but I'm guessing maybe 2.5 - 3 pounds. all in all a pretty good day. |
