The Montville ramp is not too bad, it can be kind of a pain in the ass on a low tide though. The Norwich ramp is a little better to use to launch but the parking is limited, we have never really cared for the idea of parking on the road either, but weve never really had a problem. Ive heard someone's boat and trailor did get hit roadside down there. I dont know how familiar you are with the river, just wanted to let you know that there are silt walls on either side of the river from Montville down to Norwich, you can see them on a low tide but on a high tide they hide just below the surface. If you keep to the channel ond follow the markers you will be just fine. Anyways hopefully the info will help. Good luck buddy be safe.

if your fishing from shore,i would go over by the police station, and try casting toward the docks.if they are there, you will feel them just like bounceing off the bottom..another spot is to the far left of the boat launch, cast all the way to the othere side with a slow retrive.there you will need a 1/2 oz or better to get to the bottom.most of the guys there are helpfull,if you have any questions .if i wasnt working i would meet you there and show you around.mabe net time.good luck

Plenty of ice; 6 or 8 inches. As long as the shore line is hardened up, things should be fine. I've got new blades and just might try that drill auger adapter out, Still thinking about when. Probably when the spirit moves me the way the fishing has been.

Elon,
Some of the shinners are 6 or 7 inches long, Remember the bigger the bait , the bigger the fish; (most of the time!) If the fish are hungry they are going to go after the bait!

yeah its pretty well iced over now.I posted some pictures here last week. You can catch those schoolies right from the dock or by boat. You will know when they are there. people will be elbow to elbow and a million boats in the harbor.high tide and outgoing i think are best.

Ever been to mansfield flea market on rt32 at the drive in? Always a lot of fishing tackle cheap.might be able to find some ice fishing equipment cheap. The prices they get for new stuff is crazy especially just starting out to try it.That flea market opens around march.Something to do on a sunday once in a while.

That bimini will come in handy on hot summer days. There are days you get those sea robbins and scates, but more sandsharks.Ill take doing some wiring and plumbing over a new boat payment any day!You wont have to worry about scratching it comming into the dock.
