From Trip: Shellcamp Pond NH
Trip Date:5/10/2013
Hotspot Title: Pickerel Party!
# of Fish Caught: 2
Fish Length (Average): 19.25 inches
Fish Length (Max): 20 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 12 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: Though I fought with about five or six Pickerel throughout the day, their teeth kept cutting through my light line. I did manage to land two of them though, the one pictured here being 20 inches and 2 pounds, my biggest in recent memory! Though I would normally use some kind of a hard lure for Pickerel, I was relying on my soft plastic rigs to slink through the weeds. Once again, all fish were caught on “Red Shad” Power Worms.
Location Details: We stuck mostly to this one area with intermittent lily pads not too far off the northern shore. Schools of Perch and Shiners kept running by, turning into surface feeding frenzies of Pickerel and Bass!

From Trip: Auburndale Cove 6/14/2012
Trip Date:6/14/2012
Hotspot Title: How could it be a trash fish? It's a mini pike!
# of Fish Caught: 1
Fish Length (Average): 18.5 inches
Fish Length (Max): 18.5 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 14 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 1 lbs. 14 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: I caught this pickerel on one of those weed less creme baits. Recently it has proven itself to be a fine bass lure, and as any angler knows, if a bass will eat it, so will a pickerel!
Location Details: There are two openings to the water next to the small building, one is almost completely closed off by lily pads but the other still has some clear spots. I was pulling my lure along the edges of the weed bed and the pickerel struck when it was close to shore.

From Trip: Chancing it at Chauncy
Trip Date:5/23/2015
Hotspot Title: Chain Pickerel
# of Fish Caught: 2
Fish Length (Average): 16 inches
Fish Length (Max): 17 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 0 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 1 lbs. 8 oz.
Bait Type: Stick Bait
Bait Details: All morning chain pickerel were hitting my plastic lures, but not taking any hooks. One did manage to bite my power worm in just the right spot however, and gave a nice fight. After that I threw a newly acquired Rapala Husky Jerk around, and got an even nicer pickerel in return! If anyone wants that lure, it's still there, stuck in a tree branch.
Location Details: All of the pickerel were caught along the northern shoreline, which has some decent structure.

From Trip: Ice Fishing Class
Trip Date:2/1/2014
Hotspot Title: My Pickerel
# of Fish Caught: 1
Fish Length (Average): 15 inches
Fish Length (Max): 15 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 0 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 1 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Minnow
Bait Details: Here is the fish I caught, which was the first fish of the day, an okay pickerel. Everybody was using live shiners on their tip ups and jig rods.
Location Details: We were fishing primarily in the shallow end of the lake. This area is only about three feet deep at maximum. With a foot and a half being frozen solid, we only had the remaining foot and a half to work with. The pickerel didn't seem to care however.

From Trip: First Ice Fish!
Trip Date:2/2/2013
Hotspot Title: First Ever Tip-Up Fish!
# of Fish Caught: 1
Fish Length (Average): 14 inches
Fish Length (Max): 14 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 0 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 1 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Minnow
Bait Details: This is the first fish I have ever caught using a tip-up device. My other ice fishing catches were done using my normal bass road sitting by a single hole in the ice. I much prefer to do things this way! It was just a small Chain Pickerel however. For bait we were using some live shiners we bought at a local shop. This is also the first time I have ever used those!
Location Details: We were aiming for the deeper part of the lake which is to the west of the small island in the middle of the lake.

Trip Date:2/8/2014
Hotspot Title: Pickerel 1
# of Fish Caught: 2
Fish Length (Average): 14 inches
Fish Length (Max): 14 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 0 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 1 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Minnow
Bait Details: Here is the first pickerel I caught. Came up early in the day. Nice to have some action early to keep you interested. As usual, it took a live shiner.
Location Details: I was trying to aim for the border area between the shallow area and a drop-off. I spread the tip-ups out in order to increase my chances of finding it.

From Trip: Whitehall Trip (First Fish of 2015)
Trip Date:1/15/2015
Hotspot Title: Pickerel!
# of Fish Caught: 5
Fish Length (Average): 13 inches
Fish Length (Max): 14 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 0 lbs. 0 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 0 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Minnow
Bait Details: I found that using medium shiners with a bass hook hooked through the back of the tail worked best. The bait seems to stay much more lively that way.
Location Details: I tried to stay primarily in the shallow areas, as pickerel seem to cruise these areas through winter.
