Holiday Lake - Montague, NJ

Went to visit my father and we did our usual routine of fishing from the neighbor's dock. Before the thunder storm hit, Pop ended up with five good size sunfish and I had three sunfish and one small mouth bass. I almost had a big snapping turtle that popped his head out of the water and chased my soft bait to the dock. His head was about the size of my first. Glad I didn't hook him.

Finally got out to fish today. Caught one tiny small mouth bass and two sunfish. After that it died. I tried the D&R Canal just down the road in Franklin and got skunked. I gave it one more try in the Raritan River in Manville and had nothing but a few light little hits. Put the dog and gear back in the truck and went home.

Took the dog and went fishing in the D&R canal in Franklin Twsp. I was hoping for some smallies. I kept throwing out lures and spiners, but not a single bite or nipple for that matter. I ended up switching to worms for bait and caught Bluegills and Pumkinseed Sunfish. Better than nothing. I'll have to come back at night and fish for catfish.

Farm Pond - Metler's Lane

Had a great two hours of fishing! I normally don't put fish on the stringer unless I plan on eating them.
NO FISH WERE HARMED IN THIS PHOTO AND WERE RELASED.
After I released the fish back into the farm pond, I kept catching them one after another. I probability could have filled the stringer at least two more times before quitting.

Fished from 7PM til 9PM on Sunday. I had a few light hits, but no hook ups. As it began to get darker the fish started to break the surface. I ended up reeling in 6 smallies apx 8' to 10". All were released for another day of fishing.

I got out for a short while on Sunday. I could see the bass swimming back and forth, while I was standing on the bank.
I threw almost eveything I had in the tackle box at them. I even tried using worms, eggs, power bait and even floated a bobber. Not one hit. But it was still nice to get out and fish.

I finally put my gear in the truck, so I can attempt to go fishing and because of a road detour, I found a nice farm pond.
I was able to pull off the road and fish the pond. I had a lot of fun catching green & pumpkinseed sunnys. I caught and released
anywhere from (25) to (35) sunnys in an hour and a half. I had one good hit but it spit the hook. I had a lot of fun and will have to bring
the little ones along.

I decided to take Gathney's advise and forget every thing and go fishing. GREAT advise! Went out on the Capt. John out of Keport for the evening trip. Only $40.00.

I couldn't have asked for a better evening to go out fishing. The water was smooth as glass, a light breeze was blowing and kept us comfortable from the heat and humidy.

Bait fish were jumping inside the harbor and out in the bay.
Everyone was catching shorts, dogfish, skates, searobins and spider crabs.

I eneded up with five shorts and a few misses, two of them were almost keepers. Wayne caught a short, a few misses and ended up with a nice keeper that came in second place in the pool. Close but no money.

Went fishing after work and had (3) hits from small state stocked trout. They were so small that my small hooks were too big to hook them. If they were no bigger than six inches.

Started out in the bay, but it turned nasty with strong wind, white caps and a fast drift. Looked for a sheltered area in the Kill and only caught one small blue.

Fished the lighthouse and rock piles. Had no hits the drift was to fast and the wind was kicking up some white caps. Before going back to the marina I tied off on a pile in a sheltered area and chummed the water with some old homemade chum. Wayne had a real hard strike from either a blue or striper, but was unable to set the hook. He was using live spot for bait. I in the mean time caught one spot after another until I ran out of bait. Ended up with (45) spot, which will be used for stripe bait. It's been nice to go out and finally catch something.

I went to check my crab pots on Sunday with Wayne, Jetty, Andrew and Rob. Went to pull up the first crab pot and found that some low life, dirt bag stole the crab pot. I even had a short dark colored line and a small dark float on it, so it won’t be easy to find. Anyway only (2) legal size crabs. We fished for awhile after checking the pots and not even one bite. The only good thing about this trip was getting out on the water, the cooler air temperature and calm, smooth water. Andrew did actually catch something on this trip, but it was just a piece of drift wood. He threw it back, because it was short. Lol

Took the boat out and fished with Wayne and Jetty.

Had to wait for the railroad brige to go up, so we throw the cast net and caught 210 peanut bunker and one short striper.

Out in the bay the bunker where near the surface and Wayne caught two large bunker.

Jetty caught two blues on her rod and made sure we knew she had a fish on.

All in all it was a good trip.

The boat is back! The official test ride proved to have no problems!
I fished with Wayne at Great Beds for a short time, before going back to the slip to complete the testing of the boat a low speeds and backing into the slip. The boat passed with NO problems!
Caught (1) Bluefish using a Killie & Gulp combo. This will make prime crab bait.
Had a real good hit on a Peanut bunker and gulp combo, but it only stole the bunker and got away.
All in all the evening on the water was great, the boat ran great and we caught fish. It can't get any better than that.

After work Jeremy and myself took the boat out into Raritan Bay. We had to deal with white caps and wind. We gave it a shot away. We had trouble hooking up, but had a few good hits and landed (1) short flattie. Not a great trip, but better than working or sitting at home.
