***Sorry Secret Spot, if you recognize it please keep it to yourself, thanks.*** Got out with Vinny and his Uncle Tony tonight for about 2 hours 7pm-9pm with low tide being at 8:04pm. I brought my lighter tackle tonight. Instead of my 10ft surfcast setups, I had a 7ft with a softer tip, and a Abu Garcia CD-4 Reel. Vinny and Tony where mostly throwing cut pogy, and herring w/ a little calm mixed in. I stayed with calms all-night. Multiple hits for all of us, but it was a quick pick and drop type of bite. I managed to get the only fish of the night. a 26in nice fat bellied Striper which felt like a moose on the light tackle. Till next time

Stopped for about 20 minutes after I left my mechanic. Threw a Rooster Tail around the Boat ramp area. Decent clarity for Charles River standards. Got a couple hits, and had one spit the hook. Finally got one to stick, and it was a 10-1/2in Smallmouth. I know its not big, but I like to see Smallie's close to home. Now I just need to find some Bass with some size this year!!!

Barton's Cove, CT. River - Turners Falls, MA
6/27/2010

Club Tournament with the Avid Anglers today. Also the 1st time Ive ever fished here. A combo of overcast/blazing sun, no wind, brutal humidity, no river current due to the town not drawing from the dam during the weekends, and recreational boat/jet ski traffic made for a tough day for all. Water clarity in the cove was probably 4-8ft, and in the river was 2-4ft. The bite was brutally soft, at best i'd get 2 taps, and then nothing. I caught a few fish but no keepers, 2 yellow perch, 2 smallies( 6in, and 11-3/4in of course). The boater I fished with did pretty good, 2 smallies, and 1 larry all on a jig for about 4-1/2lbs. Winning weight was only 3 largemouth for 8.97lbs including the lunker 5.12lbs. I was one of 5 or 6 to get shutout today, so I wasnt the only one, but that doesnt make me any happier. Tough way to end the 2010 Avid season. Looking forward to next season already 9/12/10 @ Webster, and 10/2/10 @ Barton's Cove again will be the 1st two for 2011

Didnt have alot of time after work, but I think I got in about 45 minutes. I tried to go the Upper Mystic first, but there was no parking available, must have been something going at the yatch club. Hot, Sunny, and little wind. Tried a few spots along the shore of the river. Barely any current, and water was muddy. Pads are in thick too! Ended the night with 1 Pickerel and 1 Larry.

I helped out at a NEBA Youth Tourney today. And since Im a non-boater, I had some time to kill during the tourney. I fished a senko at the boat ramp for about an hour till the wind got the best of me. I finished with 3 bass all between 11"-13". The kids brought in a few nice fish, I think the winning weight was 6.24lbs, and Lunker was 2.85lbs. Nice work to everyone involved!

Fished with Vinny Today From 5pm to 8pm. Hit 3 different waters from shore, 2 secret spots, and Lake Quannapowitt which is where Ill post from. Vinny had better quality for sure tonight with a 3lber, and two 1-1/2lbers in his mix. I fished a weightless senko mostly, and finished with 6 Largemouth all between 10in and 13in. Missed various other hits too, but could be worse...

Sorry Guys, Ive been asked to not give this spot out either. Ill post it random and if you figure it out, good for you. Anyway, fished with Vinny, and Pat tonight. Rain, and wind were off and on. Frustrating night for me, although I caught 5 fish(3 Largemouth, 1 Yellow Perch, 1 Calico), I also had a 1lb Largemouth shake a hook, a solid 2lb Largemouth break my line as I tried to horse it up on to land, and also lost one of Vinny's 2lb plus Largemouth as I tried to lip it and had the line snap. Hit up a new secret spot with my boy Vinny, and new friend Pat. Started with some fresh cut up pogies, and we are wishing we would have bought more. I had been out about a half a dozen times this year with no takers already, so I wasnt really expecting to much. So we're downing some brews, and chatting away when my rod tip just about hits the ground. Set the hook, and adjust the drag, and I get about a 5 minute fight out of my 1st ever keeper Striper. (Most of the fight was on video which Ill post when I get it) She was a beauty!!! 35in 14-3/4lbs, beating my personal best by 10 pounds easy. I am so pumped, and on a side note it was the most amazing striper dinner Ive ever ate. Cant wait for the next one!!! Sorry guys, this is kinda of a private spot so hope you understand why I cant post it exact.

Had an awesome weekend get away at "Anchorage on the Lake". Nice little cottages right near the water. Saturday happened to be "Free Fishing Day" in NH which was great, and turned out to be great day. Partly cloudly, near 80 and humid. Water is very clean, and clear. Most of the fish I caught were on the senko,4 Smallies biggest being 3/4lbs, and my 1st ever Rock Bass. Also got 2 Yellow Perch, 1 on Rooster Tail, and 1 on Crankbait. Cant wait for the day I can get out on a boat to fish this place.

After Work about 6pm maybe 5 minutes after the rainstorm stopped. I ended up getting in about an hour of fishing time. As I step up to the shoreline I could see a bunch of fish close to shore, bluegills, perch, some smaller bass, and maybe a couple 1lbers too. Started with a senko and got hit on the 1st cast, but did hook up. 2nd cast I was on with a Bass just under a pound. Also got a pickerel about 5 casts later. Threw the Rooster Tail for a bit and got another pickerel and a yellow perch. Finished up with the senko and got my biggest Bass of 2010 so far. Sadly it was only 2lbs 6oz, but a healthy looking fish for sure.

Quick trip dodging some rain after work. The water level here is way down. Bluegill beds all over the area I was at. No takers on a senko, shakey head, or swimbait. Finished up with a Rooster Tail getting 3 average Bluegill, one small pickerel, and one small largemouth.

Quick trip after work and before my club meeting. Got in about 30 mins. Threw a senko for about 15 mins and got hits by a few toothy critters before landing one 16in Pickerel. Then threw a weedless topwater in and around the pads and matt and got hit a few times, but no hook ups.

Beautiful evening, but slow fishing on the river. Ill keep it short because not much was happening. 3 Fish total(6in Smallie, 7in Yellow Prech, 7in Calico) tonight all on the Rooster Tail. No bites on tubes, senkos, shakey head, swimbait, topwater, or jerkbait. Im hoping the ton of alewifes in the river is a good sign for striper fishing this year!!!

Club Tourney @ Long Pond today. Weather was very good, and water temps were 62 to 66. Fishing was tough for me today. We focused on beds, mostly throwing a shakey head. Had 1 short smallie come off a the boat, and broke off a decent one. Threw a Rooster Tail for a while and picked up one 11-1/2in Smallie, and later my only keeper of the day 1lb 6oz Smallmouth. The boater I fished with had 4 Smallmouth at 8lbs+. Im pretty sure I finished last out of 10 anglers, but atleast I didnt get shutout...

The Battle @ Billington, and what a battle it turned out to be. Beautiful Day, with some great competition. Vinny and I had a game plan to start the day, and we figured out a pattern that was making it work. We caught plenty of fish, Vinny had probably 15 Bass, and a couple Pickerel, and I had 10 Bass, 2 pickerel, and a Sunfish(on a Shakey Head?!). We had our limit by 10:30am, and ended up culling 4 or 5 times to get our final total weight of 8lbs 7oz(Vinny had a 2lb 4oz, 2lb 1oz, 1lb 5oz, I had a 1lb 9oz, and a 1lb 4oz) giving us 5th place overall. We just couldnt find the kicker fish we needed during the tournament.

And of course as some of you know, Vinny and I decided to go fish some more after the Weigh-in, and on Vinny's 1st cast doesnt he land the Kicker we needed in a 3lb 9oz beauty of a Largemouth, which would have been Tournament Lunker. We were pretty stunned to say the least, lol.

Anyway, great job everyone. I think every team caught some fish which is always good. Congrats once again to Chuck, and Mark on 1st Place. And Johnny and Justin nice work on another well run tourney.

Fished a club tourney today. Love this body of water, so many places to fish. But with the brutal wind today made it tough out there. I wanted to do some bed fishing, but like an idiot I left my polarized sunglasses in my car. Alot of running and gunning to try a stay out of the wind and hopefully locate some fish. My partner today finished with 2 Largemouth totaling 3-1/2lb, I finished up with 1 Smallmouth, and 1 Largemouth both on the Shakey Head totaliing 3-3/4lbs. I was happy to get a couple in the livewell, but we were way off of 1st place which was 15+lbs w/ an almost 5lb lunker Largemouth. ***Like usual Im posting my hot spots at the launch ramp so not to give away any of my partners spots***

After work waiting out the Friday night traffic. Gusty wind, and the water level is down. Alot of small fish in the shallows. Threw the Rooster Tail for a while and picked up 5 chunky Bluegill, then worked on my shakey head technique...ton of tail bites on the worm, but only got 1 small largemouth.

1st time fishing here this year. Normally a shallow pond, but its way lower than I ever remember. Secondly Ive officially had enough of the gusty winds we've been having lately. It was pretty chilly again tonight, but I decided to stick it out. Slow night overall. Nothing on a senko, shakey head, or buzzbait. Couple hits on the Popper, but no takers. Finished up the night with the Rooster Tail getting 1 small largemouth, and 1 pickerel.

Stopped by after work tonight for the hell of it. Only had one rod with me with very limited gear. Sunny, kinda chilly, with winds from calm to gusty for the hour plus I was there. Started with a jerkbait, and had a bunch of perch, bluegill, small bass following. Finally one grabbed it, a 7in Largemouth. Switched to a Rooster Tail after, seeing if any trout were around, but ended getting another 7in Bass. Got some bites on the senko and shakey head but no takers. finished up with a finesse worm and got a 8in Bass. My 1st Bass from this lake...now I just need some size...

1st time this year fishing my old stomping grounds, And I couldn't believe nobody was fishing at the culvrit(AKA "The Pipe"). Got there about 6:30pm, and the wind was gusty but slowed down by the time I left at 8pm. Suprise, suprise, the water clarity stinks. Not much vegatation yet. End up with one White Perch on a jerkbait, and My biggest Largemouth(17in 2lb 1oz) this year on a senko only about 5 feet off shore. Thank you, may I have another?!?

SLOOOOWWWWW is the only why I can describe this place the last 2 years. 2008 was pretty good here, slim pickings since. Real Shallow from shore, but clear, except by the cartopper ramp is full of muck. Got bites on a popper, senko, jerkbait, but no takers. Finally got a dinky largemouth on the shakeyhead. Maybe some day Ill get out on a boat in this place, because I know there are some big boys in here...

One thing I didnt do enough of last year was throw topwater. So when I got to my spot after work, I was pleased that the wind wasnt having much of an effect on the area. Fished for about an hour and a half, and got some many bites. Panfish and Bass slapping at my popper, hurdling it. Fun night, that totaled up to be 4 Calico between 7in-8in, and 4 chunky Bluegill btween 7in-8in as well. Just could get any Bass to commit tonight. Maybe next time...
