31st annual Dioxin Derby Great day with all my ice fishing friends. 30 entrants everyone caught fish on this very cold day. Many big bass weighed in, extreme cold did not allow for too many pictures. Big bass were: 7lb 1oz, 6lb, 5lb 14 oz, 5lb 12 oz, 5lb 6 oz and a 5lb 3 oz. Big pickeral was a 4lb 14 ozer. Many bass in the 3 lb range and pickeral in the 2-3 lb range. I scored biggest horned pout at 1 1/2 lbs with a big pic of 2lbs, Bro caught a bass around 2 lbs. I was busy wieghing fish all day and perhaps was not giving my tip ups the attention they needed. Yea sure. EVERYBODIES A WINNER!

With lots of bait left from South end a practice round for the Dioxin Derby was in order. Bro Joe and I fished out from the boat launch and fed the pickeral population. Most pics in the 10"-14" range. Joe had 2 bass, a 1 and a 2 lber, I had my 1st bass of the season a 1 1/2 lber.

1st Ice fishing venture w/ brother Joe. Good thing we brought the lawn chairs as all species let us down. 2 flags each were probably perch playing with the bait. This was the first time either of us can remember getting skunked here! Lots of fresh air was had.

4 hr morning get away yeilded 6 bass, three were keepers, a 1lber and 2 2lbers. 2 pickeral, and broke off on something big, possibly a big toothy as the ole fireline was shredded. Keeper fish came from 6-9 ft of water well off shore on the northern end, all caught on wacky rigged 5 inch senkos, sitting dead on the bottom. Saw another fisherman land a 6 1/2 lb Larry in same area.

Club weekend tournament. Fished for 3 days. Great first day with best 5 smallies going 14 lbs. 2nd day, day 1 of tournament I was only able to bring 3 fish to the scales, with a total weight of 6 1/2 lbs. Day 3 got even worse with a bunch of shorts and only 1 keeper smallie at 2 3/4 lbs. My non boater scored a 3.51 lber and came up with lunker. 1st place went to Ed S who weighed in 5 fish each day of tourny with a total weight of just over 30 lbs! On practice day he did not get any fish, stayed away from his best spots and used them for the days that counted. Why didn't I do that! Most fish were caught on a carolina rigged gr pumpkin zoom lizard w/ a chartruese dipped tail. I favored the 12-18 ft depths, but most of the bigger smallies were in the 25-30 ft range.

Overcast foggy morning. Was'nt going to go with the talk of am thunderstorms, but woke up to a day with no storms called for, and nothing better to do then go fish. Water was as high as I have ever seen on Chauncy. I fished the shoreline tight and any lilypad clumps. Caught 15 bass from 4- 14 inches, all on texas rigged 4", or 5" wacky rigging. No bass came from the deeper weed edges, which I checked often as Bigger bass in the past have been out on that edge, but only pickeral were lurking in the deeper water. 8 of the toothys were caught in the 15-20 inch range. The boat ramp here I found was greatly improved with the state finally providing a concrete ramp.

BVBA Tourny I tend to suck wind as I enter a competition. Fishing docks and weed edges I was only able to lure 1 LM to bite, a 2lb er that took a 4 inch texas rigged senko, from under a sailboat. My partner came up with 3 Lms, a 2 3/4, a 2 1/4, and a 1 1/2 lber, with the 2 bigger fish coming from weed edges and the smaller one from a dock. The winning pattern was casting up wind of docks and letting a senko drift under any boats or structures weightless and wait for the slow bite to happen. This yeilded a 5 fish bag with 2 5 lbers for my buddy Ed. High point of my day was the 8 pickeral I caught, 5 of which came from 12 ft of water, droppshotting various 3 inch baits. All pickeral were in the 17-22" range. Hey how about a pickeral tourny!

Blackstone Valley Tourny on the Conn. River again proved to be a tough fish for all involved. I was able to entice 2 keeper smallies to bite, a 1lb and a 1 1/4 lber. Good enough for a 3rd place finish. Alot of short SM caught along w/ 1 short Lm. The cove did not score anything for me, but I found out that the lunker of the day came from the shorelineon the north side by the dam baffles. My fish came from the east side of the river, just north and south of the french King bridge. Texas rigged 4" senkos were used thrown up into current and brought along any weedy current breaks.

Rapping up our week vacation Bro Joe and I stopped and fished this 500 acre lake on the way home. The fishing was extremely slow and only 7 bass were caught 4 Lms and 3 Sms. Smallies were 8 inches with the biggest at 13. Big Lm was Bro Joe's only landed fish at 2 1/2 lbs. Something strange about the lake was all the dead weeds floating around as if there was a recent weed treatment done. The outlet near the campground was choked with this dead mat of weeds. Nice looking lake may return some other time

Canoe trip to This pond scored Joe and myself 13 Lms, 2 pics, and even a short smallie. Nice quiet pond w/easy access and a good amount of shore fishing. Lms were all about 1 1/2 - 2 lbers , the pickeral were healthy 22 inchers due to their trout diet. This pond was managed for trout. It does hold some good size brookies according to the locals.

Canoe venture w/ Bro Joe got us some Lms that fought like they were smallies even some spectacular leaps. Big fish was a 4lber that towed us out to deep water once I was able to turn him out of the shoreline brush. Most of the 21 bass caught here were in the 2 lb range. This is a great place to get out of the wind, being that it is only 24 acres. Some good smallies can be had as well as trout in Loon Lake across the St.

6/6/2009 - 6/12/2009

Week long trip to silver lake w/ Bro Joe. Weather was mostly overcast w/ 2 bright sunny days. The lake has many 2-3 lb smallies and we made sure to get out share, though it was sometimes slower fishin then we would have liked. I caught 34 smallies and 2 Lms, my big fish ended up being a 3 3/4 lb pic! Bro Joe caught 44 smallies and 3 Lms. The bite was very strange at times. I had 3 lbers on that felt like I was dragging in a beach towel off the bottom (Just weight), and some of the 2lbers would hit like a runaway freight train. Lots of these fish were into acrobatics, some leaping out of the water 3ft! Great place to fish.
Baits that worked best were wacky senkos, shaky head finesse worms and carolina rigging lizards out to 17 ft on the tougher days. Most fish came off the 5 ft drop around the lake.

BVBA club tourny. Tough day for my boater and I as we only caught 3 bass on this outing. Bobby had 2 and I stuggled to get just the one in the boat. My fish was a 2lber. Two guys caught limits out of the 10 of us and lunker was a 3 1/4 lber. 6 Smallies were weighed in.

Calm overcast day after a few days of rain. High hopes for big bass, but alas only the runts of Winthrop were to be had by Bro Joe and myself. Not even any big ones that got away stories today! I caught 5 small ones Joe had 3 and the pickeral perch and calicos were there for us between the few bass. Weeds starting to get thick.

Spent 4 hrs mid day on Whitehall along with 50 other boaters enjoying a perfect Memorial day on the water. Not much to talk about fish wise as I only bagged 1 bass in the 13 inch size and once again fell back on the ravenous pickeral population to keep me setting the hook on something.

What a great looking place to fish! Where the *##%$ are they though? Another beautiful bluebird sky day spent on this scenic waterway with my Bro Joe. We fished from Sudbury up to egg rock where the assabet comes in. We did not catch a bass until we got the rte. 2 bridge, where I did all the catching of 4 Lm that went betwwen 2-3 1/2 lbs. All 4 caught were within 15 min. under the bridge and then nothing. Bro Joe got a goose egg for the day. No pickeral or pike even! The carp were active anywhere the weeds were thick. We saw some monsters in the 20 lb class. Will definitly return here cause it looks sooo good, but I will be packing sme gear for those Carp in case the bass are few and far between again.

Beautiful spring day sunny and light breeze. I anticipated the bass to be up bedding, with the water temp at 67 and all. Only beds seen were civer infested, i can't beleive that spawning has already happened but must have been early this year as bass were tough to locate this day. 1 14 incher was landed, and 2 nicer ones were dropped at the boat. A 3lber and a 5 1/2 - 6 lber were lost due to my using such a small wacky rigged senko hook. Just those 3 bass bites all day, with a dozen piceral keeping me intertained between bass.

6hr venture to the frigid waters (46 degrees) of Wallum lake produced some very cold feet from launching, 1 bite on a wacky senko (bait MIA), and one 1 1/2 lb. smallie slammed a white spinnerbait. My partner got a 2lb LM on a rattletrap. Thats all folks!

4 Hr. mid day get away produced 2 bass. A 12 incher and a nice fat 5 lb. 8oz. largemouth, who could not resist my 4" dacquiri texas rigged senko. Very slow fishing with water at 50 degrees and 10 mph wind blowing into the shore he was sitting on. The pickeral kept me going for the rest of the trip.
