A front arrived early this morning and the rain came shortening the trip by 10:30 a.m. Only three hours of fishing.

Trolling and casting for bass. I caught 15 largemouth (all trolling) and 2 smallmouth while casting at busting fish. The smallmouth were 18 & 19 inches. The bass were a mixed bag up to 17 inches.

Trolled again at Carvins Cove. What a difference a day makes. Yesterday the big ones were biting regularly. Today it was much slower and the largest fish was a mere 2 pounds. Yesterday's average was closer to 3. I did catch a big bullhead of about 24 inches on a crank.

Started in the afternoon but was chased off the lake by thunder and rain after less than two hours.

Smallmouth fishing on the New. The day started off slow and the bite never did get real hot but it was hot! 95 degrees. Clay fished for Musky all day. I fished for smallies most of the day. We both raised a musky today but no bites. I caught a citation smallie @ 20.5 inches.

I fished the Roanoke River in Salem at my favorite spot. The fish were in there and I caught 7 bringing home 4 for dinner. They took a spinner and struck often at a crankbait. However, none hooked up on the crankbaits.

Bass fishing on Smith Mountain Lake. The fish were on fire today. Pattern was on wood right on the bank. The bait was a salt/pepper grub and 1/4 ounce weight. You could almost call your shots.
