took the new boat out today for a test run. we were only out for a little bit this afternoon. pretty slow bite, but i did get a nice bass. must have been at least 8 lbs, LOL. not quite big enough to call the local paper. haven't replaced the scale yet, but he was probably a solid 2-1/2 lbs, maybe pushing 3, but probably 2-1/2. it was great getting back out on the water.

not a great day for us, but we managed to have a good time any way (as we always do). here's how it went down...

1) arrived and launched boat
2) previously patched hole doesn't hold up and boat immediately begins filling with water
3) semi patched leak from gusher to minor. good enough to continue.
4) on the water, cigarette lighter doesn't work, stress level increases. (thanks to the team that gave me a lighter)
5) 5 hours no fish. first fish in boat at 12:00 noon.
6) fill live well and discover areater batteries are dead

it's always great to be out fishing for the day, but luck was not on our side. ended the day with 1 bass, 1 pike, and one 50 year old soda can (pic attached).

see everyone at whitehall...

the state park gate is closed, but i recently found out there is a boat launch on the other side of the pond. this is an absolutely beautiful place to fish. no houses, 10 hp max, tons of structure on the shore and steep drop offs 10 - 20 yards off the shore. this will quickly become one of my favorite spots simply because of the atmosphere.

the fishing wasn't bad either. after spending the weekend repairing a major leak in the bottom of the boat, i finally got out this afternoon (by myself) for about 4 hours.

caught 9 bass total on a jig with a crawdad trailer. nothing huge with the biggest at 1-1/2 lbs, but still a good (peaceful) afternoon fishing.

got out from late afternoon to dark. pretty slow day after the front came through. had a really nice largemouth (4 or 5 lbs) on the line, missed him with the net, jumped out of the water and off the hook.

we did get 2 to the boat, but a pretty slow day overall.

MA Fishfinder Tourney

a nice day to be on the water. still couldn't break the 7 lb mark, but we did catch some fish which is always better than nothing. at the end of the day we had caught 8 large mouth and 3 pickerel.

no photos. adding trip to keep track of the numbers.

also, thanks to the guys who helped nicholas with the boat. it's a little rough for us until i teach him to drive the truck, lol.

got out this afternoon until dark. a nice day, a few good fish, but a not so good ending. at the end of the night, the outboard propellor got stuck in the mud and snapped the shear pin. a cheap fix, but can't get the part till monday.

other than that, a nice day fishing. nicholas had 3 really nice pickerel, one of them at 3 lbs. he also had a couple small bass and a 2-lber. i had a couple average bass and a decent pickerel.

getting a late start to the season. haven't had many chances to go this year. still finishing up the boat, so the few times we've been out its been from the shore. tough to find the fish when you can't move around the pond with a boat. 2 hours until dark tonight. only one bite. nicholas got a small calico on perch rapala.

this was our favorite place over the summer and it did not disappoint today.

a beautiful day on the water. sunny, warm, and not very windy. no biggies as 1-1/2 lbs was the avg weight for the day.

3 largemouth (16 inches) and 2 pickerel (20 inches), all at 1-1/2 lbs each. 4 more pickerel and a small bass brought the total to 9 for the day.

not a bad 4 hours for november.

a nice day to be on the water. no jet skis this time. was hoping to fair better here. nicholas had a few fish, but nothing very big.

he ended the day with 3 pickerel, 3 small largemouth, and 2 perch. all of them were 12 inches or smaller. he did have a really nice, big perch on the line, but lost it before getting it in the boat. must have been around 16-18 inches. biggest perch i've ever seen.

my day was dead with two very small perch. only got the one pic for the day.

5th and final MA Fish Finder tourney of the year. a slow day for us, but still had a good time. we hadn't been out on the boat in a few weeks and the weather was great for being out on the water.

ended the day with 2 totaling 1-1/2 lbs combined. not our best showing, but still a fun day.

not a bad year for us as we did manage a 1st place finish in one of the four we participated in.

see every one next season.

the lake has been stocked with fall trout and this was clearly evident by the number of boats on the water. not many parking spots to choose from today as there were at least 20 boats on the water.

breezy and a little cool, but not a bad day. we ended with a decent rainbow, a small brown, a couple of baby bass, and a sunfish.

got about an hour and a half in after work tonight. our first time here, but i have heard good things about the place.

it was pretty slow tonight. tons of fish surfacing, but nothing really biting. did have one on the line for a short time and then he let go.

there was another guy fishing not far from us. he got 2 on a top water bait. we tried top water as well with no luck.

seems pretty slow lately no matter where we go. hopefully it will start to pick up a bit as we get into october.

the plan was to try whitehall reservoir today. got on the water and there were a bunch of speed boats and jet skis. this was odd as i had read on the state website these were not allowed here. we dealt with it and went about fishing.

throughout the day at least 2 boats and 2 jet skis came within 20-30 yards of us at full speed. we took on water from the waves of one of them. at that point i got pissed and actually called the number for hopkinton state park to complain. they did not answer. it would have been rather embarrassing if they had. turns out, we were at the wrong place, lol. didn't realize it until we got home and i double checked the map.

we had spent the day at north pond because i hadn't paid enough attention to the directions. the two ponds are not more than a mile apart.

the fishing wasn't bad if you can deal with the obnoxious speed boats and jet skis. these people definitely did not have any respect for any of us smaller boats that were on the water.

we ended the day with 8 total. 7 largemouth, all in the 12-14 range. and a 1-1/2 lb smallie.

i liked the fact that there is a steep drop off about 5 - 10 feet from the shore. the water gets deep quickly. most were caught within 30 yards of the shore in the open sun light as the water was deep enough and weedy enough to provide cover for the fish. i would like to go back later in the month and try this place again when the recreation season slows down.
