What a fish. This one really topped off my year. To get my biggest one of the year in mid Dec is pretty awesome. I had brought my dog Penny down to one of my favorite lakes so she could bomb around the woods while I wet a line. I started out with a jig, and on my second cast, I got hung up in a tree and broke off. It broke off pretty easy, so I knew my line was old and week. I didnt bring my tackle bag with me, so I called Penny, and we headed back to the truck to go home. When I got to the truck Penny looked at me, as to say, "thats it?". I felt bad because she wanted to stay, so I decided to tie on another bait and head back out there. I went with a shakey head with a creature bait. For those of you who know me, you can probably guess which one. I went back to the last spot I was fishing at and got nothing. I moved down the bank to my right about 50 yards and made a cast. I let the lure hit the bottom and started my retrieval. Wham! I feel a nice pop. I set the hook, and my rod bends in half. At first I thought I was on bottom. That was until my line started going from left to right. I fight the fish, not knowing what it is for a few minutes. Then I see its head come out of the water, and I realize what I have on the end of the line. It's also when I realize I'm not gonna be able to swing this fish on shore. I make the decision that I'm gonna have to jump in the water to lip him. Near the bank I jump into about 2 feet of water. It's cold but I didnt feel it at the time. I pull the rod up over my head and lip the fish. Then start screaming like a mad man. Penny is loosing her s***. She doesnt know whats going on. Now I jump on shore and take a few pictures and videos with my phone. I have to say, this is a fish I will never forget. I didn't have a scale, but it had to go between 5 and 6lbs at least. I caught a 6.2 last year, and this fish looked to be just as big.

I hit a local lake for about an hour today mainley to give my dog Penny a run in the woods. I brought a rod with a square bill crank bait(crawfish color) just to mess around. I was pretty shocked to she how well they were hitting. I wish I brang more tackle. I caught 3 nice Pickeral and a bass within an hour. I would have stayed longer, but Penny was driving me crazy. Got a little footage of one of the pickeral and the bass.

I figured with this hurricane coming in a few days and the rain, the bite should be on. I was right. My first cast of the jig I hit a pound and a half larry whos belly was full of something. A few casts later I slammed a 3.5 to 4lber. About five minutes after that I hit a 4. Awsome night. All fish were caught on a green pumpkin Hack Attack jig, with a net bait paca craw trailor.

Boston Harbor

Went out on my friend Steves boat today. We started out by pulling our 10 Lobster traps. Ended up with only 2 keepers and a monster egger throw back. We decided to flounder fish instead of striper because there was nobody catching anything all day around the harbor. We were rewarded early and offen. Steve even got a huge black Sea Bass. Just a great day all around. Check out the door mats!!

Finally some nice weather. Bass were all over beds. Caught some in the 1 to 2lb range. Also caught a nice 4lber on a jig. Saw a monster snapping turtle that was attacking everything in its path too. Now if we could just get some consistent nice weather the spawn should be in full force. Meat met up later in the afternoon and caught one on a jig as well. Mid day seems to be the ticket for now. Must be a water temp thing.

Words of Meat - I got there at 630pm, and Vinny had already picked on the Bass on beds, lol. I tried bothering a couple 2 to 3lbs Bass by dropping my jig on there head, but there werent interested. Watch Vinny get a 1-1/2lb Bass and 2lb Pickerel before I got my only fish of the night. A little 10" Bass took my jig for a ride.

Secret spot on Northshore
3/5/2011

Went Ice fishing with Meat and Pat D today. I had a good day pulling in over 10 fish. 6 bass 5 picks, and a slob perch. Got some good footage of one, but has no audio. Still 20 inches of ice.

While Vinny was showing the boys how it was done in the morning, I didnt arrive till about 1pm. And of course it was slow the rest of the day. I did manage 1 perch on the jigging rod, and 1 Pickerel on a trap.

Caught 12 stripers tonight. Sick trip. Caught 4 on top water and 2 on spinnerbait with light tackle. The other 6 were on a blueback 9ers umbrella rig. 2 double headers! Only one keeper over 30 inches, but still an awsome night.

Upper Mystic, MA

Pat and I went to the upper Mystic on my boat yesterday. We didn't get on the wated until 4:30ish. My trolling motor s*** the bed right off the bat, so I knew it would be a f***ed up trip. We tried a few spots in some shallow water in the back first, but with out the trolling moter it was impossible. Eventually we make our way back to the ramp area where an old dock is all stumps now. I'm sure you know the one. Pat flipped a creature bait into the dead middle of it and got whacked. I heard his drag take off immediatly. When I looked over, this monsters head and half of his body came out of the water. When I say it was a pig, I mean it was a f***in pig. Had to go at least 6-7lbs if I had to guess. I reached down to grab the net, and by the time I picked it up, I heard that terrible noise we have all heard before. h, f***! He spit the hook. It would have been nice to get that one in. We stayed in that spot for another hour hoping he would hit again, but got nothing. On another note, the herring were everywhere. The bass must get huge in this place. I'll bet there are some over 10lbs. We called it a night after that. Braid is a must at that spot. Even if it had not spit the hook, Pat only had on 10lb mono, and might have been broken off on the pillons. Other notes: Way overgrown in the back. The ramp sucks.

Meat and I hit the low tide tonight. I caught two Stripers. One was a keeper. 7lbs 8ozs and 29inches. The other looked to be about 26inches and weighed in at 6 plus. One right after the other at 9pm. 15 minutes before dead low tide. Got a couple nice fillets off of the keeper. Tonights dinner!
