Well, got out in the boat today... water temp, 36 degrees... ice on some of the coves,... air temp 39 / 41 mostly cloudy.. very little wind.... caught one bass around 2.5 pounds on a jig. Nice start to the new year... felt great to be out fishing even tho it was cold.... just love fishing.....picture posted in my photo section... the photo section of this trip area never works for me.. | - |

GOT OUT TODAY FOR A FEW HOURS AND WITHIN THE FIRST 15 MINS LANDED A 5 1/4 LB BASS... CAUGHT IT ON A JIG IN ABOUT 6 FEET OF WATER OFF A POINT. Went to Alloway Lake... first hour was rough... no bites...nothing!! then next two hours found some fish... lost two... missed a few hits... and landed 4 bass, two in the 2 pound class.. caught fish on jigs and crankbaits... then... for no reason... motor went... was in back of lake-- wind blowing hard... and had to row back to ramp.. SUCKED!!! I tried to keep fishing but the wind was out of control and was blowing my 10ft jon boat all over... new motor bought today!! | - |

Hit the waters again this week.... twice -- Hit some very nice size bass and a couple MONSTER pickerel (see photos in my photo section.... water was in low 50's... this is the time of year the bass start to feed heavily as they follow the schools of baitfish.. Since most of the vegetation is gone for the baitfish ( especially shad) the bait schools up and the bass are after them.... caught most of the bass on shad colored crankbaits and black jigs off of points and off the bank in deeper water.... Nailed two monster pickerel in the 3 to 4 pound class... caught one on a crankbait and the other on a swimbait....get out there and fish folks.... the bite is on! | - |

Had an outstanding day on the water yesterday.... my buddy and I caught over 30 bass..... one 51/4 pounder.... 6 in the 4 pound class.... and other than 4 small ones the rest were in the 2 to 3 pound range.... All fish caught on jigs... shad crankbaits.... and worms..... just an incredible day.... fished from 7am till dark.... one of the best days for big fish ever!! check out my photo section.... even snagged a carp around 30 pounds.....lol | - |

Got into some nice 2 pound bass the other day... caught 10 bass - 9 on shad crankbait - square lip and one on a zara spook topwater... most of the bass were in the 2 pound range.... caught them in about 5 foot of water off points.... also saw a Bald Eagle... awesome site.... posted photos in my photo section.... | - |

Trip before the Storm

Went out to try and get some bass fining in before the impending storm..... Had to work hard but managed to land 7 nice bass and 3 pretty good size pickerel. All fish were caught in deeper water (not on shore line) in about 5 foot of water around structure ( sunken trees). The pickerel were caught on the shoreline. Water temp was still high for this time of year, 72. Partly cloudy with light breeze. Posted photos | - |

Went out today to Penbyrn Lake..... cloudy day, so I figured it to be a good day to try this deep lake with crystal clear water.... Well, caught 8 bass in about 4 hours of fishing.... 5 on drop shot....3 on jigs... sounds like a good day but all the fish were 10 to 12 inches in size. I've fished this lake about a dozen times now and have caught a ton of fish, but only 2 of them were near the 2 pound range.... all the others were the same as today... small fish... I don't get this lake.... it has plenty of structure... tons of baitfish... deep water..... and no big bass. I've talked to many other anglers I see out on the lake and get the same reply... a lot of small bass... but no larger fish.... this lake has me stumped..... | - |

Landed over 20 pickerel today ( stopped counting at 20) and 11 bass... some nice 2 and 3 pounders... pickerel were small to avg size. Caught most fish on the frog today... a few on plastic worm... and a few on a jig with a white twister tail... Found the fish in the pads today... heavy pads... I mean... so thick you couldn't see much of an opening between them ( like maybe an inch or two here and there). Fish were blasting the frog while it sat on top of large pad leaves.... I had one really nice bass (I'm guessing maybe 4 to 5 pounder) raise its tail completly out of the water and smack my frog as I twitched it on top of the pads... couldn't get the damn thing to strike tho... Fish were blasting tons of small fry in the pads as well as hitting dragon flys that were hovering over the pads....it was crazy... fish everywhere... fished from 6am till noon..fished a small private lake that gets fished pretty heavily.... great day! | - |

Got the boat out around 10am before the impending storm coming... Managed to catch 8 bass ( from 1.5 to 2.5 lbs) and 3 pickerel.... All fish caught on frog and purple worm.. Once again, the bass were in laydowns right up against the bank.... if I landed my lure more than a foot away from the shoreline I got nothing... this has been the pattern for quite some time now... missed several explosions with the frog... love fishing topwater.....posted pics in my photo file.... | - |

Hit the water again today and landed 9 bass and one pickerel... all the bass were of the exact same size.. about 1.5 pounds... caught 4 on a purple plastic worm and 5 on the frog... fish once again were hugging the bank in shaded cover... pads-weeds-fallen timber.... lost several that blasted the frog and lost a frog to what had to be a pickerel... hit the frog.. set the hook... and nothing but line came back.... | - |

Got out to try for some bass on Malaga Lake... water was about a foot low... like all lakes in South Jersey due to lack of winter snow and spring rain.... well... landed over 20 Pickerel up to 3 pounds... and three bass. Caught all fish in the pads in very shallow water...(less than a foot in most cases). Fish caught on Frogs, Mepps #3 spinners, plastic worms, and spinnerbaits. Fished from 9am till 2pm. Sun was bright, light wind. There were about ten rowboats and kayaks out on the lake so it was fairly crowded. I gatta hit some lakes where there are not so many pickerel... dont get me wrong... I love catching pickerel - they are a vicious great fighting fish... but I need to have a day where I can nail double digit bass...... | - |

Got out early this AM and went to OAK POND.... one small bass and nothing else.....hit the bass in about ten foot of water on a jig with a twister grub tale... fished another hour with no one single hit so took the boat out and hit another lake nearby.... PICKEREL - PICKEREL - PICKEREL.... I have to admit.... as much as I love catching pickerel, Im getting a bit pisses that I'm not catching many bass so far this year..... I know this lake has a good population of bass -and some nice size ones as well - but so far, three trips to this lake and all I have caught is a very few bass and tons, and I mean tons of pickerel.....things better change soon.... I may go carp fishing on my next trip... love catching these amazing fighting fish and havent gone yet..... | - |

Well... went out to a Private Lake that I fish... the lake gets fished pretty good since it is private - but nobody ever says anything.... yet... have done well in the past on the lake, but today in five hours of fishing, I caught 17 pickerel.. AND NOT ONE BASS! Kinda pissed me off.... but the action was awesome. Pickerel put up a great fight and attack lures, especially using the frog. Caught fish on spinnerbaits, rapalas, plastic lizards, spinners, and the frog... can't understand why I didnt get one bass.... fished all over.. banks, weed beds, lilly pads, deep and shallow waters,... but nothing... guess I'll just chalk it up to "one of those days"..... | - |

I had a few hours to kill. so I went to a nearby pond in a small development... no stream coming in or out... I beleive it was manmade as a retention pond... BUT - I saw at least a dozen nice size bass getting ready to make beds.... you could see small cleared out beds that looked like they just started to clear out... some of the bass were in the three pound range... they were in about one foot of water and they just stayed there chasing sunnies away from the area they cleared.... I tried everything to get them to hit but they didnt want anything to do with picking up or hitting a lure.... even with the sunnies.... there were plenty of one to two inch sunnies they could have easily swallowed, but all they did was flare their gills and chase them away... I tried, spinnerbait in a variety of retrieves.... worms, crawfish plastics, lizards, rapalas, crankbaits... but they just looked at my presentations and ignored them... sooooo frustrating... i guess if they didnt eat the sunnies, there would be nothing I could use that would be more lifelike as a live sunny.... I'll be back to nail some of these hogs.... | - |

Warm sunny day.... 80 degrees light wind... found fish in very shallow water... 12 inches to 18 inches.... choked with weeds.... fish were exploding on the frog - but caught them on just about everything I threw... rapalas, jigs, worm, spinner, and spinnerbaits.... ended up boating 6 bass from 2 pounds to 3.5 pounds... and 14 pickerel.... awesome day!! all in less than 4 hours... | - |

Well... it was in the low 50's today, raining... but I decided to get out for an hour or two since the temp wasnt that bad.... Glad I did... stayed out for about an hour and a half and landed 6 pickerel and lost 3... several of the pickerel were pretty nice size... all gave quite a nice fight. Caught every one on a gold Mepps spinner #3. Retrieved fairly fast... Great action for end of December..... | - |

Went to Malaga Lake yesterday, 11/5/14. Decided to go there since there are a ton of pickerel in that lake as well as some decent bass. I figured I'd have a good day of action catching pickerel all day and maybe a few bass... well, I did catch several pickerel, (not as many as I thought I would have), but the best part of the day was the five pound bass I nailed in the pads on a white spinnerbait. He nailed the damn thing and when I set the hook I knew it was a pretty big fish... My eyes popped out when he came up to the surface and I first saw it... never expected to catch a bass that large in Malaga. The place gets pounded by fisherman and I have fished it a lot this past summer and didnt catch any bass that size. Needless to say, it was a great day.. Photo is posted in my photos. | - |

In the last month I hit Malaga lake several times with pretty good success... Caught a lot of fish, especially pickerel but nothing really huge.... Nailed a few bass in the two pound range.... most all fish caught on frogs, mepps #3 gold blade spinner, and silver and black rapalas. Most fish caught in the pads... Pickerel were in there thick chasing tons of baitfish!! I was using the frog in the pads and throwing the rapala and spinner in the open pockets....Had a great time since the action was none stop! Lost one nice bass around 4 pounds on the spinner... Saw it chasing baitfish (thought it was a pickerel) and threw the spinner at the edge of the pads.... bang.... fought it for a short while - then it jumped clear out of the water.. probably around two feet above the water ... flipped around and shook the lure.... yes,,, I wasnt happy..... but all in all... that lake is hot right now... | - |

Went out today and landed around 7 bass and 4 pickerel.... all bass were around 1 to 2 pounds and caught on either frog or worm.... Fish were in the pads today and right up on shoreline.... lost a really big one today.. around 4 pounds or better... pissed me off to be honest cause it was my fault... I was adjusting the trolling motor and it took off with my worm... never really got to set the hook good and it jumped out and shook the hook... damn!!! | - |

Got out a bit late today... fished from 10:30 till around 3PM.... first time fishing this lake from a boat... caught 6 bass and 4 pickerel... nothing huge... all bass between 1.5 and 2 pounds... pickerel were all around 15 to 18 inches... Fish caught on Frog... Plastic worm and lizzard. Very overcast all day.. light rain around 1pm till 2pm light breeze.. Not overly excited about this lake... I heard the dam washed out several years ago and the lake drained and is now much shallower than before.. seems like most of the lake is about 2 to 3 foot deep and loaded with lilly pads and weeds..... If it was another foot or two deeper this lake would be outstanding!! | - |

Went out for a few hours today to try and catch some carp.... one of the toughest fish to catch and land. They are very smart and fight like crazy when hooked.... If you love fishing... you will love the fight of a monster carp... Anyway... several hours went by with no action... I managed to hook and land two decent size bullheads ( 2 to 3 pounds). I had the area baited with oatmeal and corn... I saw some commotion about 5 to 10 feet from the shore so I baited up my bass rod with sweet corn ... no weights... and cast it out as far as I could... (about 15 feet off the bank) Bang... caught two decent size carp - one 9 pounds the other 10 pounds. What an outstanding fisht on my medium action bass rod..... took be a while to bring them in... but I managed to get em in to the net... pictures in my photos..... | - |

Went our for the third time this year trying for carp and zippo... got skunked every time thus far.... I am trying new waters (Audubon Lake) and have not gone back to my hot spots from last year (Cooper River). I dont like the river cause its tidal and the currant is very fast... with all the rain., there is tons of debris and weeds fouling your line. Funny thing.... while I was waiting for a friend... I took out my bass rod equiped with a frog and made some casts near the lilly pads.... BANG-- nailed a bass just under 2 pounds..... Anyway...... hopefully I will get into some carp real soon.... | - |
