Tuna Fishing On The Skip-A-Dory Fishing Report

5 Rating based on 2 Reviews

Awesome November day of bluefin fishing aboard the Skip-A-Dory with Captain Chuck DiStefano. This was first time with Chuck, as I joined one of his regulars Derek on a trip. Derek swears he has never had a bad trip with Chuck, and this day was no different. If you haven't heard of Capt. DiStefano, you'd have trouble finding a salt water publication that has written about NE fishing that hasn't featured him. We took of early out of Boston (2:30am) and after some prospecting on Stellwagen, made the run down to P-Town. When we got there, boats were trolling and a few tunas were hooked. We put out a kite and additional live lines with pogies, as well as speed jigging. Pretty soon. Slam! Derek was hooked into a nice bluefin, that after a good fight, was boated just in the 47" slot. A bit later, a small volkswagon crushed the kite bait, but we missed the hook. A short time passed, and I was hooked into my first bluefin. Caught lots of smaller yellowfin in the Outer Banks, but this big guy just burned my reel. In the end, we pulled a nice 69" 2 bill fish over the rail! I was pumped up. Boats were definitely noticing that we were always hooked up, but most of them were trolling with no fresh live bait. Too bad. Our last fish of the day was the biggest yet. Derek started of, then handed over to me. In the end, we measured the fish out at just under 72". Awesome fish, but...we had maxed our quota and it was about an inch short of keeping it as a trophy/commercial fish. Painful as it was, we made sure the fish was in good shape, popped the hook, and watched it glide off. That nice bit of sushi would have paid for this trip and the next. Time to head to the barn. What a trip. I hope to get back out on the Skip-A-Dory in the not too distant future. Derek was right, Chuck is the go-to guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrQ_n_ttdo0
