Stupid Pickeral

Posting my first trip...Got up early (for me) last Sunday and headed out to one of my favorite ponds in Stoneham for some largemouth bass shore fishing. This late in the season, the pond is heavily covered with lilies and hydrilla, so I gotta go weedless. I start out with my brand new brown/gold Live Target frog...some promising strikes after a few casts, and then I see a crazy ripple of water closing in on my lure...BAM!!! I get a huge eruption of water around my frog and then I hook a nice fish...2 seconds later...fish cuts the line...sh*t...stupid pickeral. There goes my brand new $10.50 lure!!! Now I'm out of frogs, so I switch to a black/red flake toad, and then my day got better since I caught this nice 22in bass (and a pickeral). Definitely worth the lost lure, short hike, and dodging shady characters on the trails.

  • I think the term is gay elves

  • LOL. i think people referred to them as the "elves."

on a side note, i hate that. i've only lost about $30 worth of tackle to slime darts this year so far though. not bad!

  • I dropped the "lilies" and "shady characters" comment so MAFF guys would know where I was fishing. I always take one of my dogs with me, so no worries. That said, I too would not recommend people go there by themselves.

  • Were you fishing at dark hollow? If theres weeds its definitely not spot pond.

Be aware of the shady dudes running around there.
