Quabaug River - Brookfield Ma 8/16/15

Great day to be in a Kayak Fishing.

We went to the Quabaug River in Brookfield Ma and spent the day on the water / river. Access point was the new small launch ramp at the bridge on Rt. 148 which crosses the river. The bridge is still being replaced, roadway is down to one lane and we were surprised to see that that small access ramp was open for use. We had planned to put in at the launch point for Quabaug Lake.
Ramp still needs some work to be completed, parking is limited at the ramp to only 3 or 4 cars. There is additional parking down around the corner with about a 3 minute walk back to the ramp.
There was quite a few recreational kayakers on the river with only 2 small power boats. Weather was great, very calm, no wind at all, air temp was 85 degrees, water temp was 76 degrees.
We headed West (downstream) from the bridge and worked both shore lines. Picked up a couple of small perch and a couple of small bass.
Headed back (upstream) past the bridge and worked both sides of the river. River was rather low with quite a few weed banks to contend with. Once again we picked up a couple of small perch and a couple of small bass. We were using mainly top water crank baits as well as some spinner baits.
We didn't go all the way to the lake entrance.
Other fisherman were using rubber worms earlier in the day and had some good success with them pulling in a couple of 2 to 3 lb bass.
