Ponki PHOOEY

I tried, lord knows I tried, to catch a fish, any fish today. But I was blanked. That's right S-K-U-N-K-E-D. Six hours on the water and not even a blasted pickerel. I saw a big assed snapping turtle and a painted turtle. I saw cormorants, gulls, geese, swans, ducks, a great blue heron, and several other species of birds but no F-I-S-H. The water was really murky too which is pretty unusual for this place. Probably going back tomorrow to continue the torture unless someone wants to meet me elsewhere.

  • down size minus1 or jerkbait could do the trick. Smaller spinnerbaits can be great for numbers any time of year.

  • After doing a little reading, I like that theory. Ponki is a shallow pond and would be a candidate for spring turnover. It would certainly account for the level of silt in the water. I also think the wind has contributed.

  • in this particular trip, could the murky water and lack of fish activity be due to possible turnover of the water?

  • I agree with Don, The change in weather is having an effect on what typically be good spring time activity...

  • lol it is so tuff that ive resorted to targeting perch and sun fish with my little ultra light just so i can catch SOMETHING! hahaha! ive cought about 20 bluegills and 8 yellow perch over the past 2 weeks in 2 feet of water but have yet to hook anything bigger than a perch

  • It is tough out there, no doubt. Water temp. is still in the low 40's. No sign at all of fish in the shallows. We need some mild weather! Desperately! LOL

  • Bummer man. Maybe switch it up and try somewhere else?
