Ponki In The Morning
Ok so I was actually planning to hit Farm pond yesterday morning. I got on the road at about 6:30 and tried to take this shortcut to route 9. I missed a turn and ended up on the VFW parkway! At that point I was heading towards Dedham and I just decided to go with it. My usual spot in those parts (Buckmaster) has been invaded by a kayaking school and a kids fishing club which has been kind of annoying so I just hopped on 95 south to Canton. I drove around looking for the res, but did not find it, so I just went to Ponkapoag. I was dreading the long walk in with my Canoe which actually ended up being more manageable than I expected. First spot I tried was the shoreline right by the launch. Nothing happening there. Second spot was out in the middle. After getting a lot of little bites but no hookups on a slow, weightless, lift-fall presentation I decided to try something different that has worked for me in the past. I reeled my worm in really fast and then let it drop and hooked a nice chunky 13 in LMB a little over a pound. I stuck around a little while longer but did not get any more fish so I paddled my way to the northwestern corner of the pond. The water was more calm over there so I decided to try some topwater baits. I parked myself on top of a big mud pile by some pads near the shore and started throwing a scumfrog bigfoot. I got a good hit on the third cast but couldnt seal the deal. I switched back over to a senko and noticed that there was a really deep, dark pocket right in front of the mud pile I was parked on. I pitched the senko about 4 or 5 feet in front of me and let it drop down. I started reeling in and to my delight there was a nice bass on the line. After a quick but ferocious battle, I get him in the boat. Nice fat 3 pound Large. Stayed another hour but didnt manage any more fish in that time. Oh well, I was happy with the two quality fish I caught. I'll take quality over quantity any day.
Wow great details thanks for sharing and nice work sticking with it to make a day out of it.
