Ponkapoag

First trip to Ponky in my kayak. Carry in and launch are pretty easy; there is a nice beach and shallow launch area. In the water about 6:30 AM and hooked into pickerel on a popper pretty quickly. This is a very shallow and weedy pond; it's tough to fish anything with trebles other than top water lures. I switched over to a silver Rebel minnow and hooked into something nice but it threw the hook. Landed a nice yellow perch and a small bass on the Rebel in that same area. Things slowed down after that with only a sunny on the Rebel. Turned out to be a pretty hot day in the high 80s.

This is a nice place to paddle. The only development is a small camp site on the northeast corner, otherwise it's surrounded by conservation land. I saw two other boats out fishing and at one point a couple recreational yaks appeared.

One more thing - beware of rocks. There are some big mamas just below the surface.
