Pike actions underway at the CT River. Caught a few smaller fish this week but its getting better. Alot of baitfish around and the rivers calming down.

Anybody catching anything deep? Everything I've been catching has been shallow. Can't seem to pinpoint a pattern for this time of year.

If this weather keeps up the CT River will be open for pike fishing Feb. Stopped by the river yesterday and there was some open water. The 10 day forecast seems to be warmer weather. Time to spool up and get ready.

I should have proof read. The wire leaders are a must, but as I said, go with the 18" leader, you may not lose "the big one". There are several good LAKES in eastern Ct.

I do a lot of pike fishing; not only wire leaders are a must, but I use 18" leaders. I had a 12 ' leader on and was cut off. The fish swallowed the lure and leader. If I had an 18" leader on at the time, I would of at least had a shot at that monster. In eastern Ct. there several good and getting better every year. Good luck in Maine.

wqpjim, never been to Maine but ,leaders are a must, prefer sevenstrand wire myself, not sure if the pike are deep yet in Maine,a big bucktail jig might be good, tip it with a large shiner or even better a sucker if they are available, you can get by with medium tackle,I fished a medium action Uglt Stick for years, took it to Ontario 3 times and boated many 10lb plus pike.If the pike are hanging on the weed edges or drop-off,you CAN NOT go wrong with a big, perch colored Shadrap.Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Pike fishing is heating up with bigger fish around. I few were caught in the mid 30's with bait fished on the bottom. Very nice pike Paul.
