New to the fishing scene up here and have done some research on smallies. Do they typically respond to water temperature around here (Westchester) or is it more the time of year? Late April, early May?

Smallmouth react much better to cold water than largemouth do so this time of year its best to look for the smallies. Obviously the time of year is crucial too. As the water temperatures start making there way to the mid 50's they will start to spawn. However, this time of year you have to fish deep to find them, deepest part of the body of water. Just fish extremely slow the water is still cold around here (I live in NYC).
