Montauk, NY Fishing Report

Montauk Maddness

Late fall (Oct/Nov) means a few last shots at migratory stripers before they start heading back down to my old fishing grounds in the Chesapeake and Outer Banks, and Montauk is the place where you can find them fueling up on bait before the run south. I've fished with Jack Balint from the Fish Connection for the past couple of seasons, as his focus on light tackle angling fits my interests, he consistently puts me on fish, and he's a good guy to spend a day with on the boat. Building a good relationship with a captain is important, as it makes the fishing more enjoyable and can lead to opportunities saved for regular customers. I'd had a few attempts last fall to get out one more time blown out, so I asked Jack to give me a heads up whenever we got a window to run across to Montauk. Sure enough, Jack called a week later asking if I wanted to fish the next day. He had another regular, Mark, who was also up for a trip. So the next morning we were departing for Montauk. What a day! Acres of stripers in the early morning, followed by the same with blues later on. See for yourself.

If you are looking for a light tackle charter out of the Stonington area, I can certainly recommend Jack, and I look forward to fishing with him this spring.
