Earlier today we gathered for another MAFF kayak tournament, once again fishing Stump Pond/Robbins Pond in Halifax/Bridgewater. This location was a replacement for East Brimfield Lake, which was canceled due to lack of interest.
The day started off pretty gray, foggy with a slight breeze, then shifted to a mix of sun and clouds. As always, some did better than others, but I think everyone caught fish. And probably a lot of pickerel. Big ones, too. We should have done a lunker pool for pickerel.
Anyway, here are the results:
1st Place - ericlevy1 - 11lb. 1oz. 2nd Place - purpleturkey - 10lb. 4oz. 3rd Place - ericlevy1's dad - 9lb. 12oz.
Lunker - purpleturkey - 3lb. 2oz.
Congrats, fellas! As always, add your photos, comments, etc.
I always get confused about this location. I know there is a little cartopper access ramp off Pond Street in East Bridgewater, but where is the access to the other side? Can you get from the larger pond with the island into the "stump pond"?
Congrats ericlevy!! I did pretty well today had 7 keepers in all, caught them all morning, I had 2 the last 20 minutes that increased my bag by a pound. I caught all but one in or adjacent to lily pads, in tight and off shore, everything was on Texas Rigged Stik-O Worms with a finish nail stuffed in the tail. Everything was on Northern shore between the damn and the 1st point. I also had 4 short bass and 3 more that I lost. I had no pickerel or crappy. Tried a frog for a dozen casts 1st thing but no action at all.
So I ended up with four fish for 6lb 7oz, putting me in 4th place. My biggest went 2lb 5oz.
I struggled to catch a limit. I HOOKED a limit ten times over, but I lost SO MANY fish today. Not sure why. Maybe it was the small, lightweight spinnerbait I had tied on to help keep it above the weeds. No idea. Probably just bad luck, because I had numerous blow-ups on the frog and every time the fish missed it. Lame.
Can't say all the fish I lost were bass, either. Some were, and I imagine some were pickerel. But still...way too many lost fish. Infuriating.
Anyway, most came on a white spinnerbait, until I broke that off. Then I switched to a white/blue spinnerbait. Color didn't seem to matter today. As I mentioned, I did have some blow-ups on the frog, but other than that, nothing else worked for me. Nothing on the senko, swimbait, or flipping.
Overall it was still a great day. I love this pond. I'll post a video soon...
The ranking score is used to determine how "popular" a trip or location is. It is calculated based off of a weighted average of the number of reviews and the user ratings. For example, a trip with 2 reviews and an average rating of 5 will have a lower "ranking score" than one with 10 reviews and an average rating of 4. This is because even though the first trip has a better average rating, it has not been reviewed as much as the second trip, so it is not as "popular". In the future we may modify the ranking score to take in additional factors, such as the number of views, comments, and photos.
