Pocahontas State Park VA Fishing Report

Inaugural Kayak Trip Swift Creek Res

Took my new fishing kayak out to Pocahontas State Park and fished the Swift Creek Reservoir. No fish, but a good time with the new yak. Good place to practice, second time I have been here with little success. Wouldn't recommend fishing here.

  • Sweet ride man, glad you finally got on a yak. I too have fished this reservoir numerous times with little success. However, last time I went, I saw a guy in a john boat go through a hole I had just fished and pulled out a 4+ lb largemouth. He weighed it and immediately called someone and I heard him say it was over 4 lbs.

I have absolutely slammed that lilly pad field with about everything in my tackle box: frogs, tubes, worms, lipless cranks, etc and I have literally only got one bite in there off a Spro Bronzeback...but failed to set the hook. A little further up from there is a laydown in the middle of the reservoir. On one trip I had 3 serious bites here, landing a nice 2 lb largemouth. Other than that fish, I've only managed a couple of more, all around 10 inches small.

We'll definitely need to get together soon and go fishing soon.
