I got out of work an hour early, so I decided to do some shore fishing from this poison ivy covered spot I've been going to on my lunch breaks.
I've been catching bass like crazy all year, and never really fished for anything else so I figured I'd bring a 2nd rod and try for my first catfish or carp while I work the plastic worm on my first rod.
Within 5 minutes I caught my first catfish, using breadballs smeared in velveeta. I took the worm off my 2nd rod and since I only had an hour I figured I'd just go for bottom feeders. I caught 6 catfish altogether, (3 brown, 2 white, and 1 that appeard to be yellow, but I don't think yellow bullhead live in the river, but who knows.)
I also had something drag out about 75 yards of my line at a high speed and bend my wooden Browning Rod like a question mark before it finally broke my line. The biggest fish I've ever caught is a 5lb bass, so I've never felt anything like it....had to be a carp.
Poison Ivy all over the place. Now that I look at the map, it says it's conservation land...does that mean I'm not supposed to be there? People fish off the bridge 30 yards away all the time, so it should be ok.
I should also point out, in the two or three times I've gone to this spot since I posted this, I've gotten skunked. There is a family that fishes under the bridge every day, and last week one of them pulled out the biggest freshwater catfish I've ever seen in person though.
The ranking score is used to determine how "popular" a trip or location is. It is calculated based off of a weighted average of the number of reviews and the user ratings. For example, a trip with 2 reviews and an average rating of 5 will have a lower "ranking score" than one with 10 reviews and an average rating of 4. This is because even though the first trip has a better average rating, it has not been reviewed as much as the second trip, so it is not as "popular". In the future we may modify the ranking score to take in additional factors, such as the number of views, comments, and photos.
