Black Crappie
Black Crappie
Here is a picture of the first Crappie I caught. Hit a black Heddon torpedo. Good way to break up the monotony.

Small Bass
Small Bass
This is one of the first Bass I hit. He also hit the Heddon torpedo. All around it's the most productive bait for bass here. Although I did also get one on a shallow running KVD Crank that was near the surface as well.

Bass on the Top
Bass on the Top
The bass in particular like to hang just outside the edge of the weed line. Running a topwater through the slot can be hard, but it does produce.

Record Smallmouth!
Record Smallmouth!
The rocky area once again produced most of the Smallmouth, including the big one. I did catch a small one in the northern end as well however.

Last Largeouth
Last Largeouth
This was the last Bass I caught during the trip. A nice almost 3 pound largemouth. I'm going to start hitting the northern end of the lake this summer to see what other largemouth this lake has to offer, and maybe a few big pickerel as well!

Largemouth
Largemouth
Since I was still attempting to chase Smallmouth, I stuck to the rocky area in the center of the lake. Since the water has warmed however, I'm guessing we have reached the end of "Smallie season." Luckily, there is a nice muddy and weedy end at the north end. Time to put those Texas rigged power worms to work!

This is one of the little Smallmouth. I caught numerous midgets like this. While they may not be the monsters I seek, seeing them is a good sign that recruitment is going strong.

A hair under two pounds. This one is what I would call "average" for the area.

It's hard to tell from this picture, but this is one of the big boys. I caught two Smallmouth that weighed close to three pounds and measured 18.5 inches (it may have been the same fish twice, though I saw no evidence of previous hook wounds). Catching these fish is an experience. They jump and run as if possessed by demons, and give my 8 pound line quite the test.

Another of the one pounders. They may not have the heft, but certainly they have the attitude!

Another of the big boys. This one was approximately 2.5 pounds, 17.5 inches. Watching the jumps these fish are capable of is truly a privilege.

This is the other of the two 18.5 inch, 2 3/4 pound Smallmouth. I hooked numerous other fish of this size class, but as is their trait, they have proven quite capable of shaking the hook. Just adds to the fun =).

Many of the fish were smaller, but this juvenile Largemouth put up a spunky fight.

Largemouth Summary
Largemouth Summary
The Largemouth seem to be more abundant on the southern end of the shallow rocky area. The northern shore of the lake is shallow, soft bottomed, and relatively weedy, so it's likely better bucket mouth fishing is to be had there. Since we were chasing Smallmouth, we stuck to the deeper, rocky sectors. The pictured fish is one of the better examples.
