October 13, 2013 - Finally, a calm day with blue skies. I launched about an hour past high tide to fish the outgoing. I picked up three fish in the first 20 minutes at a spot that's proven quite reliable over recent weeks. I then pedaled into a section of the marsh I hadn't yet fished but was told held some big fish. Alas, no biguns for me today but a boatload of schoolies to 22". I know this water holds big fish, the locals keep regaling me with tales of monsters taken on live pogies. I may need to tie some larger flies and change up my technique a bit. They say practice makes perfect. At least this kind of practice is a blast.
Hey JessieKay, I DO use plugs and soft plastics on occasion. I do not ever use live bait. I have taken this year to build my fly fishing skills so I deliberately take just my fly rod (and a backup) on most trips to force myself to learn.
The ranking score is used to determine how "popular" a trip or location is. It is calculated based off of a weighted average of the number of reviews and the user ratings. For example, a trip with 2 reviews and an average rating of 5 will have a lower "ranking score" than one with 10 reviews and an average rating of 4. This is because even though the first trip has a better average rating, it has not been reviewed as much as the second trip, so it is not as "popular". In the future we may modify the ranking score to take in additional factors, such as the number of views, comments, and photos.
