Back River Then Ponki
My friend Tom from NEKF and I took a scouting trip to Weymouth's Back River to hunt for stripers. We launched from Wessagussett around 10:30 and peddled under the 3A bridge. Currents from the incoming tide were quite strong and swept us along at a tidy clip. Once under the bridge we discovered a wonderful undeveloped park area that would make for a nice day of fishing if there were any fish to be found. On our fishfinders we marked a lot of herring balls and a few larger fish in the 17-21 inch range, but no bites. Just after slack tide we called it a day. Tommy went home but I wanted to wash the skunk off so I headed over to Ponki where I proceeded to kill the slime darts on a perch colored Rapala jerk bait. Sadly, no bass, no gator pickerel, no photos, but still a nice 7+ hours on salt and sweet waters.
